IAF's two squadrons earn Presidential standards

JAIPUR: Two IAF's Squadrons — 32 Squadron and 220 Squadron — received the prestigious Presidential Standard from President Pranab Mukherjee in ceremonial parade at Air Force Station Halwara in Punjab on Wednesday.

Commanding Officer of 32 Squadron, group captain GV NK Verma and commanding officer of 220 Squadron, group captain Sharad Aneja, received the standards from the president.

Defence spokesperson Col S D Goswami said, "Indian Air Force's 32 Squadron, which is presently based in Jodhpur, is popularly known as Thunderbirds and was formed on October 15, 1963 at Adampur in Punjab."

Governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, state's chief minister Prakash Singh Badal and Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, chief of the air staff were present on the occasion besides a host of other serving and retired officers of the two squadrons and civil dignitaries.

The standards are awarded to operational units while colours are awarded to non flying formations.
