IAF Wing Commander caught trying to cross over to Pakistan

It is highly unlikely he was Pakistani spy or a defector, just a deserter, who wanted to flee to Pakistan to escape IAF discipline committee.

If he was a Pakistani spy why did he go AWOL on October 24, 2011(cant serve ISI masters from a ashram)..and found in Sadanand Asharam 8 months later, why didn't escape to Pakistan during this time.

Jaipur: Indian Air Force Wing Commander Shashank Shekhar, who has been declared a deserter by force, has been caught by the Border Security Force (BSF) near Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan's Anoopgarh while allegedly trying to cross the border. Shekhar, who hails from Ambala City, had hidden some documents and his passport in his shoes which have been recovered.

Security agencies are now questioning Shekhar. He was posted at Ambala Air Force station in neighbouring Haryana from where he remained absent from duty without leave from October 24, 2011. He was declared a deserter in December 21, 2011.

The officer was apprehended from Sadanand Shantanand Asharam, Haripurakalan, in Dehradun on May 11, 2012 by the IAF and police. He was then brought to the Air Force Station, Ambala around midnight on May 12 and was medically examined.

The officer was later placed under Air Force custody and three officers of the Ambala station were put on duty as escorts. Around midnight on May 13, the officer pretended uneasiness and suffocation and requested the escorts sitting outside the door of the room to allow him to come out for fresh air. On being allowed, he ran away from the Air Force custody.

The two escort officers chased him. However, Shekhar took advantage of the darkness and grass and managed to give a slip to the escorts. His act of escaping from custody is an offence under Section 51 of the Air Force Act, 1950.

Looks more like a deserter than an actual spy, there is really no need to go to Pakistan

More than a co-incidence how spies are getting caught one by one after doval took over NSA

Good Job BSF..... Now it is the time to show him what a deserter should be facing........

Maybe he was VEER.....trying to get ZAARA???

The question is why would he want to escape to Pakistan after a lapse of three years, why not remain secluded or try and cross to say Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.....it's obvious he was heading for his contacts.

A stupid way to be a defector
i meant if say he was a pilot defecting with his aircraft.....what could BSF do then. !!

If he deserted in Oct. 2011 what was he doing in India for the past 3 years?:what:

there more to this story.......

IAF would have shot the plan down before letting it reach Pakistan, besides for this plan to work the controller would have to be in on the plan.

It's easy to remain incognito in India. Do you really think our intelligence services are competent enough to weasel out a smart guy if he wishes to remain anonymous?

i guess you are right, besides a deserter would not be as big a threat as a defector

Actually, someone as high in the chain of command as a Wing Commander deserting his post almost immediately ticks off fears that he may be attempting to run away with sensitive information. I don't think he was ever off the list of suspected defectors/spies once he deserted.
