"In a display of its growing combat prowess, the Indian Air Force on Friday successfully test-fired an air launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi fighter aircraft in the Bay of Bengal, official sources said.

The missile hit a sinking ship with deadly accuracy and the test-firing produced desired results, they said.
The aircraft, belonging to Thanjavur-based Tigersharks squadron, took off from a frontline airbase in Punjab and it was refuelled mid-air before the missile was released, they said."

From Punjab to bay of Bengal with air to air refueling, nice.
A distance of more than 2000 km.
Checking the reliability of sukhois for long flying hours and testing the infrastructure in the east.
For possible interdiction against Chinese shipping.

Excellent...... Flankers have a range of 3000 km and add to that 400 km air launched deadly BRAHMOS...... this is what called a power projection capability which first world militaries always had..... now we have it too.....
With refuellers flankers with BRAHMOS can hit the target even in SCS with pin point accuracy and return back to their base...... congratulations to nation.....

But they cannot operate in isolation. This was a test to check the refueling and reliability when operating far away from the base.
But more tests should be done while launching from different altitudes, in different weather conditions, variable speeds ,etc.
Basically in stressed conditions when the opponent would be on alert with countermeasures.

I agree completely.....
Video please

I think video still not released.... only video of older test from Sukhoi is available..... let's wait....

Lets wait for same Indian fanboys who trashed SU30s after 27th Feb. Now same people will start telling you how this jet is better than Rafael and every other thing in their inventory. Su30 is and will be an awesome plane for the foreseeable future and rafales cant match its superiority. Modi made a Phudu out Indian by showing rafale as some other worldly jet when in reality his mates made big bucks out of that deal.

Very simple thinking.
One is a medium category and other is a heavy category fighter.
The procurement was initiated in the Congress government period as our 40 odd mirage2000 were getting outdated and Pakistan was quite ahead with its blk52 f16s.
Modi only completed the deal which kept on dragging for a decade. The rafale was finalized by Manmohan Singh.
You are in a defence forum, i bet everyone, except you knows the timeline.

Another test of imported mijjile.. Lol seems like only working mijjile in indian inventory..

IAF has flown Su30 to UK and US so it's not the test of refuelling and reliability.

It was more of a test of performance in actual combat scenario.

I doubt. Maybe the refueling plane facilities in the east were being tested.
A single test in ideal conditions cannot really be called combat scenario. But its its all speculation.

So a top Russian air superiority fighter in Indian hands is only good against slow moving ships. well done.

For faster targets Flankers are equipped with R series missiles.....

BRAHMOS is anyways designed for anti ship capability and for taking out targets on the ground only..... but flanker now armed with BRAHMOS air launched versions with 400 km has more to do with striking range, power projection capability that it offers to India now which till date was a luxury available to first world air forces only......

India can now hit the targets even in SCS, Diego Garcia, middle east, eastern African countries with original long range of flankers, refuellers and add to that 400 km air launched BRAHMOS..... this capability is the actual important part here.....

No...

A pair was enough to force a certain AF's almost 2 Sq. of fighters to fire BVRs from so far as not to get in combat with them.
