IAF Pokhran blitz to showcase its firepower

The Pokhran range in about 275 km from the Indo-Pak border as the crow flies. I doubt the PAF would let its Erieye come within 25 km of the Indo-Pak border and risk action against almost 70 aircraft participating in the exercise. You know what happened the last time when a military aircraft came that close to the border.

What would happen?

Do you think the IAF will try to shoot a PAF aircraft down which is flying in its own airspace during peacetime?

Not a chance. We have flown ELINT missions every time there is an IAF exercise and there is nothing that the IAF can do about it. Snooping is a part of the game and both sides engage in it on a fairly regular basis.

We all remember the Atlantique Incident

A bilateral agreement signed between India and Pakistan in 1991. The treaty states that no military aircraft is supposed to come anywhere near 10 km from the border

Keep that AWACS clear, we wouldn't want any unfortunate incidents

My point is that the PAF would be reluctant to lets its sole Erieye come within 10 kms of the No Fly Zone for ELINT purposes, that too without fighter escorts (which may give a wrong idea to the IAF), right at the time of the exercise which involves nearly 70 IAF jets.

PAF is completely within its rights to undertake all kinds of missions. Its just that the location of the exercise and the rookie training of the Erieye operators may not pose an ideal situation. Most IAF exercises are held all over the country, even the East and South. I doubt the PAF has ever been able to conduct any ELINT during these exercises.
