IAF is not going to place jets there..Kalaikunda has 1 sqd SU 30 MKI for protection of A&N.and it makes perfect sense.remember what happened to Japanese F-2 during Tsunami??they lost several of them.so,No permanent deployment of jets there.but yes,India is strengthening A&N Command.

Very good strategic location in the key shipping and oil route. No country can go to war in the future with India as the missiles can make mince meat of container ships causing massive economic damage.
And what will that particular country will do to your assists if you mess with them???

Army releases news, photos of BrahMos test firing, withdraws | Zee News
Last Updated: Thursday, April 9, 2015 - 23:58

New Delhi: The Indian Army today released photographs and a statement concerning "successful" test firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, only to withdraw them later without assigning any reasons.

The Defence Wing of Press Information Bureau (PIB) first issued two photographs in the afternoon purportedly showing the launch of the missile from Car Nicobar Islands. A little later, a press release was issued about the launch at about 11 AM.

However, about an hour later, the Army issued an advisory to the media to withdraw both photos as well as the press release for some inexplicable reason.

Efforts to elicit the reasons for the flip-flop were fended off by the Army.

The original press release had said the Block III variant of BrahMos with steep dive capability was launched by the Army unit from a Mobile Autonomous Launcher.

It had said the missile followed a predetermined trajectory and successfully hit the designated target on Trak Island at an extended range.

Just before noon on Thursday, news broke that the Indian Army had tested a BrahMos Block III supersonic cruise missile from Car Nicobar, part of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. The detailed statement announced that the missile had successfully destroyed a target on Trak Island, a tiny uninhabited sand flat to the South-East, and located just North-west of Little Nicobar. The Army's statement also said that the test, conducted at 'extended range' signalled the activation of another BrahMos regiment in the Army (its fifth). Great story. They sent pictures too. The Army's statement was also put out by the government's Press Information Bureau, its official disseminator of official press material.

But two hours later, the Army sent out another statement:

Press Release titled " Army Operationalises Regiment of Brahmos Missile on 09 Apr 15" issued on 09 Apr at 5.29 PM may please be treated as WITHDRAWN.
The Army hasn't specified why the statement has been withdrawn, or even if the statement is incorrect. A BrahMos spokesperson said he didn't have details of the operational test, since it was conducted by the Army. While speculation swirls over the statement, it's important to note that the original statement specified a 'successful' test. The possibilities are several: (a) It wasn't a test that was meant to be announced. (b) The announcement wasn't meant to carry the details it did. (c) The test wasn't a success. (e) There were other factual inaccuracies in the statement. (f) There was no BrahMos test at all, it was in fact a test of the Dhanush, ship-launched tactical ballistic missile.

The Army has said it will release more official information once it becomes available.

Three such system will be enough to block Malaaca Strait.. Plus lets not forget we have other platforms that are specifically designed to this kind of job. I am just saying ...

New Delhi: India on Saturday test-fired the Brahmos missile with an extended range of 450 km, officials said.

The test was done from the Abdul Kalam island off Odisha coast around 11 a.m., officials said.

The missile range was extended from 290 km to 450 km following India`s joining of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) in June 2016.

The MTCR is an informal and voluntary partnership of countries to prevent proliferation of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle technology capable of carrying over 500 kg payload for more than 300 km. It prohibits member countries from giving such technology to countries outside the club.
