The CJP said that Kalabagh Dam will be built at all costs
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th June, 2018) The hearing on Kalabagh Dam case was held in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar held the hearingof the case.
In his remarks, the CJP said that Kalabagh Dam will be built at all costs.
“I don’t know if this dam will be constructed in my life or not but the superior court will make the very first contribution in building this dam,” he said.
The chief justice said that Malik Riaz is present in the courtroom. I will take all his money. Either save the country or save your interest, he said.
The CJP said that he will take money from Malik Riaz and give for building the dams.
The CJP asked former Wapda chairman Engineer Shamsul Mulk to guide on further course of action. “Only you experts can tell which dam can be built. The Supreme Court will be ahead of everyone in the matter of dams,” he added.
Shamsul Mmulk told the court that he had predicted of a drought in Balochistan ten years ago.
He said that if the leadership is ready, he will work as a soldier.
The CJP remarked that he is thinking to stop court proceedings and hold a seminar on Kalabagh Dam to put light on its importance.
The country’s debts have in increased to an alarming level and I want all four provinces to benefit from the dam. The four brothers would have to render sacrifices for building dams, CJP Nisar said.
He added that Hyderbad’s drinking water is no less than poison while arsenic was found from the water of Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
The media should also conduct programmes on the issue of water. Shamsul Mulk said that most of the land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be deprived of water if the dam is not built, he further said.
The chief justice said that he is not only talking about Kalabagh dam but other dams too. He said that dams are very important for the survival of Pakistan, adding that would have to work on war footings.
“Gather the people so they can put in suggestions. I will not let anyone go until the issue is resolved. Everyone would have to think about it collectively,” he said.
Malik Riaz’s counsel Aitzaz Ahsan in his arguments said that we would have to think about the opponents of dams as well. The CJP said that we should first focus on the dams that are not controversial.
“Nothing has happened about the construction of the dam. What did the political governments do about the construction of dams? Dams will be built at every cost. Tell me where they have to be constructed? Tell me the solution of the problem,” he said.
