I can answer questions about China and help you understand our country

How religious are avg Chinese people?
Chinese people are generally atheists. But China has 180 million Buddhists, 30 million Christians and 30 million Muslims.

The Chinese Constitution stipulates that Chinese citizens have the freedom to believe in religion. However, China prohibits the dissemination of cults. Generally, China only recognizes Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Taoism. Every university in China has halal restaurants, and China has 39000 mosques.
BTW: there are 2000 mosques in the United States and 1750 mosques in Britain.

near zero.

For thousands of years, Confucianism has influenced Chinese, Koreans, Japanese and Vietnamese. The Confucian attitude towards religion: to respect their gods, but stay away from them<敬鬼神而远之. This can explain the piety of the whole East Asia to any religion, whether he has faith or not.

If you say especially devout believers, it is almost zero. The core of Confucianism is 中庸. It means not to be extreme, not too left or too right. The mood should be calm and things should not be too intense. Therefore, under this thought, there are few crazy believers.

what are the general feelings of the average Chinese on the western provocations in the south China seas? I know the historical anger, so the Chinese people wish to unleash hell to take revenge for the past centuries of exploitation & colonization?

we do not have any anger towards anyone but just want what is ours. imagine the audacity of a thief that not only takes your things, but says even verbally asking to get them back is aggression.

sometimes, exemplary revenge is a necessity to establish long term deterrents.

I want you to comment on the movie/entertainment culture in China. I watch a lot of Asian dramas - korean, japanese, chinese etc., Last I saw was 'nothing but thirty', which was decent. For China to have a more importance in global politics, soft power is necessary. I feel China is lacking in that (my personal view). eg., I feel korean industry is more mature than china. It's important to have soft power to understand the culture and history of a nation/people. I think hollywood plays an important role is making US a global super power. Do you think China needs to improve on this part to be considered a global power along with US?

Chinese soft power is partially in dramas, but there's also novels (ie Three Body Problem - my signature is from Dark Forest), animation (ie King's Avatar 全职高手) and especially gaming such as Genshin Impact, Honor of Kings, Dyson Sphere Project, and yes, even the game version of Dark Forest...

The Chinese government does not pay much attention to soft power. It pays more attention to technological and economic development. I think it may be because most senior Chinese officials are STEM engineers, while most American officials are lawyers or Internet Celebrities (such as Biden and trump).

And China has never been willing to be a superpower.
No Chinese would say that China is a superpower, because we were bullied by superpowers and almost colonized. So we will not be a superpower, nor will we yield to any superpower.
We used to be get wet in the rain, so we will help others hold umbrellas instead of splashing water.

In China, the premise of CCP government legitimacy is to resist imperialism. If it becomes a new empire, it will lose its legitimacy in the Chinese people.
There is a story in China that the boy who defeated the devil finally became the devil. This story is a warning. We fought against all imperialists, Japan, the USA, the Soviet Union, France and Britain. Our predecessors paid a lot of lives for this. If the CCP government becomes one of them, the blood of our predecessors will be wasted. We can't accept such a thing.

There was one IP man movie which was romantic/drama. A girl couldn't marry him bcz of her vows. Bruce lee comes in the last scene. Very good movie. Edit: it was Grandmaster
