I am here to save the country, says Nawaz

FAISLABAD, Mar 07: The parliament, Islamabad courts and judges are forged and fake people have come in the country now; however, no one will be allowed to run the parliament, courts and other departments according to his own sweet will, the Pakistan Muslim League-N chief and former premier says.

Addressing a jam-packed crowd at the Dhobi Ghat Ground, Nawaz Sharif said the masses had rejected their disqualification verdict of the Supreme Court and turning up of thousands of party workers on roads was enough to prove that courts and judges were bogus.

He said parliament should represent the masses rather being controlled by one person.

Criticising President Asif Ali Zardari, he said the parliament, courts, Constitution and departments were not his property; the masses and political leaders were the real owner of all such institutions.

'Nawaz Sharif and the masses will not be remained tight-lipped, if Mr Zardari tries to capture all public institutions for his own interests.'

Sharif said his party had tried to maintain the reconciliation efforts, but Zardari recanted his pledges that he made through agreements of March 9, Aug 5 and Aug 7.

The president had got declared us disqualified through courts and imposed governor’s rule in Punjab, he added.

'I am again ready for reconciliation only for restoration of the deposed judges, supremacy of the judiciary, repeal of 17th amendment, charter of democracy and bright future of the masses and country. I am not demanding any portfolio but seeking safety of the country and its dwellers,' he added.

He questioned the people who were allegedly playing with democracy, using the powers of prime minister, disavowed his words, extend protocol to Pervez Musharraf, make courts a mockery, withdrew his the pledge of 17th amendment repeal, disgracing the public mandate and imposing governor rule.

He said that he was addressing the people of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, NWFP, Northern Areas and tribal areas, adding that the country had suffered an irreparable loss and now it was a decisive moment to do something for the country.

Strict security measures were made for the gathering as all roads leading to the venue had been blocked by erecting barricades.

Police were also in full stretch and slight baton charge on the participants was also reported at the main entrance. Influx of the PML-N workers made it impossible for the security officials to frisk or make them go through walk through security gates erected on some entry points.

Declaring the long march a defining movement, he urged the people to leave their houses and join hands with the lawyers and party to decide the fate of the country.

'I am here to save the country rather to beg anything for myself or Shehbaz Sharif.'

The former premier said the elements who hit the memorial of the slain Benazir Bhutto (BB) were not from the PML-N. However, if the PPP leaders want to bring to fore such elements and registration of an FIR of Benazir Bhutto, they must take out a rally with him.

However, he said neither the government had traced the killers of BB nor registered any case in this regard.
