When my daughter was 5, she claimed she had "night vision". Now she's 7 and she laughs at herself when I remind her of her night vision days.

Why I was a kid I had this bright idea of jumping off my balcony with an Umbrella so that I could float down like on a parachute.

Luckily I did a test jump from my cupboard and fell down hard and bent the family umbrella. It hurt quite bad since I was expected to float down and was not prepared for a hard landing. Thankfully that jumped knocked enough sense in me not to try that stunt for real

Silly. Why blame others for the stupidity of parents.

Years ago when Spider man was very popular on TV , a friends son broke his collar bone when he tied a sheet on himself like the Cape Spider man wore & jumped off a sideboard at home.

The parents were to blame.

I blame the Media for misleading kids.

I blame the govt. for not regulating media.

Its easy to blame the parents, but parents can only do so much.

Parents really need to be more careful about leaving dangerous materials lying around.

Our neighbors two year had to be taken to the emergency room because he drank phenyl which he found in an open cupboard under the sink. It's commonly used in India to mop floors with.

Parents leave kerosene, matches, medicines all lying around...never any lock or key and then blame kids for mishaps. My gran leaves her innumerable pill bottles all over the house. Someday some kid will swallow her diabetic medication and go into hypoglycemia. Cultural rethink needed.

The child is dead, have a bit of heart.

The fault lies with the parents, they should have kept an eye on him and what he watches.

Remember, kids are kids, they're allowed to be dumb.

a little dumb, sure, but not that dumb.. fire will burn you, it's a base reflex/instinct, unless the kid in question had mental retardation issues but there is no mention of anything of the sort in the OP.

of course it's tragic, I never said otherwise but personal responsibility for certain things like not setting yourself on fire should come sooner than 12 years of age.

We can all have arrested development issues. In some of us it manifests as lack of reason, in others as lack of critical thought. There are also situations such as yours, where a person may grow up with basic lack of sensitivity and mistake it for straightforwardness.

So one should be patient in these situations.

In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy died in Venkatapuram in Hyderabad of Telangana while trying to imitate the actions of a cartoon character of a TV show.

The deceased has been identified as Jaideep Madugula a class 5 student. On Thursday morning, Jaideep saw a cartoon character on TV laughing while burning in flames.

Police said that the boy, who was inspired by the cartoon character, went to the terrace, doused himself in kerosene and set himself ablaze.

The incident came to light, when the grandparents heard Jaideep's cries. Locals later rushed the 12-year-old to the nearest hospital. Jaideep had suffered about 40 per cent burn injuries and later succumbed to it.

He was living with his grandfather in Venkatapuram of Balapur village, while his parents live in Jiyaguda of Hyderabad. Based on the complaint filed by the father Mahipal, police has registered a case of suspicious death and handed over the body to his parents after post-mortem.

Meanwhile Balala Hakkula Sangham, a child right organisation demanded strict action and said that channels producing the shows without any social responsibility more particularly in case of children should be held responsible and the producers should be punished.

It is state media policy to be blame. They must restrict such type of cartoons. Why they allows such episodes first place

I have watched a lot cartoons in my childhood but never thought of doing something like this to myself, parents are to be blamed, teach your children properly, 12 isnt a age where a child doesnt know what he is doing.

Sadly a lack of empathy or sympathy not a development issue, its a symptom of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Its a fine line between that to becoming a sociopath or a psychopath.

They already demonstrate much of the same characteristics like shifting blame, refusal to accept responsibility and poor behavior.

Under such circumstances, even infinite patience will not help since the person is incapable of seeing his own limitations.

Apparently there is some hope in these cases. I feel for the parents of such cases, although in many cases it is an abusive childhood that leads to such damage.

You honestly have never been around kids, have you? They'll try and kill themselves every other second, if you don't keep an eye on them.

You severely overestimate the maturity of children.
