I've made no such assumption. Indeed, guilt is something dishonest leaders are fond of inducing in their subordinates and followers. Now that I've tricked you, you have to stick with me or you'll be pursued for your part in the crime.
It's vitally important to get over this to escape from tyranny. In 1956 Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev gave the Communist Party Central Committee a "secret speech" revealing some of Stalin's most heinous crimes and torturings. At one point he was interrupted:
Voice: If Stalin was so bad, why didn't you get rid of him?
Khrushchev: Who said that?
[Silence]
Khruschev: Well, now you understand why we didn't do anything.
You're comparing him to these people who you consider noble, but to me, he's a Benedict Arnold, a scumbag who sold out his own people.
