Hungary has unveiled plans to erect a fence along its border with Serbia as part of a controversial anti-immigration drive, saying it “cannot afford to wait any longer” for the European Union to come up with a solution to the migration crisis.

"The Hungarian government has instructed the interior ministry to physically close the border with Serbia," Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister said on Wednesday, adding that preparations would be completed within a week.

The fence will be four metres high, 110 miles long, and may employ barbed wire, officials said.

Hungary is one of the main points of entry for migrants into the Schengen passport free zone and is witnessing a spike in migration, with about 57,000 people entering the country illegally so far this year, up sharply from 43,000 in all of 2014. 95 percent of those cross from Serbia, which is not a member of the EU but has started accession talks. Last year, Hungary received more refugees per capita than any other EU country apart from Sweden.

About time. Greece, Bulgaria and Croatia need to do the same.

Hungary comes dead last at this. Greece has already constructed a fence along its border with Turkey since 2012. It cut illegal immigration from the land border by something like 90%... Last year Bulgaria also built a wall. It cut illegal immigration by 85% in the wider area that the wall was constructed. It's currently extending it and making it 5+ times longer than before.

Then where the hell are they coming from to Serbia? EU estimates that more than 40 000 immigrants went through Serbia already in this year only. More than 22 000 of them asked for asylum in the first five months, and they estimate that around 100 000 of them will go through Serbia in this year only. And what are EU and UN doing about this problem. Mostly nothing. Most of those immigrants are from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya... And we all know who fucked up all those countries, who started colored revolutions... So let them now solve this problem. If you ask me all Balkan states should just let the immigrants go freely to the western Europe. Then they can call the US to start another war in middle east or Africa.

Or better send them to Sarkozy houses. What goes around comes around.

And they talking about European Union solidarity, not surprisingly that EU is second tier world power.
