Despite calls for his arrest this morning by Hun Sen over a Facebook post the prime minister dubbed “treasonous”, opposition Senator Hong Sok Hour remains in a “safe place,” according to an opposition lawmaker

Teav Vannol, a senator with the Sam Rainsy Party, which still exists as a legal entity, told the Post that early reports that Sok Hour, a dual French-Cambodian citizen, had been detained at the Cambodia National Rescue Party head quarters were untrue.

“I’m not sure of the location, but I know he has not been arrested… as of this hour, he is in a safe place.”

“I talked to his wife, and his wife said that he told her he is in a safe place.”

The reports followed comments by Hun Sen during a speech this morning calling for the Sam Rainsy Party senator to be arrested for posting “fake” international treaties to his Facebook page related to the Cambodia and Vietnam border.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh, the premier accused Sok Hour of treason.

“Whatever price, the government has to take action…. this is treason, I can say it like this.”

The premier ordered National Police Commissioner Neth Savoeun to detain Sok Hour and Minister of Justice to request the Senate revoke his parliamentary immunity.

He also ordered Phnom Penh International Airport to block Sok Hour from fleeing and told foreign embassies not to interfere.

“If you do not let me have harmony, I also do not let you have harmony too,” he said.

“Pochentong [airport] must close all checkpoints to that man. Please, other embassies, do not accept the man. This is an actual offense and he must be arrested immediately. Other embassies do not interfere.”

However, following the speech, several senior police officials, including General Khieu Sopheak, spokesman for Ministry of Interior, claimed police were not yet seeking Sok Hour.

Despite there being no arrest yet, Teav said it appeared the Senate was already moving to strip Sok Hour of his immunity as a senator.

“I got a call from the secretary of the senate to have a meeting tomorrow at 8:30am, a whole session meeting, he didn’t say why, but you probably already know why.”

Spokesman for the French Embassy Nicolas Baudouin said Sok Hour was not at the embassy.

The opposition senator, the chairman of the Senate’s anti-corruption committee, has played a key role in the CNRP’s recent campaign to highlight alleged encroachment by Vietnam, traveling to Paris to collect maps the opposition says are versions of the constitutionally mandated maps that should be used to demarcate the country’s eastern boundary.

The opposition has accused the government of ceding land to Vietnam by using the wrong maps to demarcate the border, increasing political tensions.

BTW, Hun Sen called for Hong Sok Hour arrest because Sok Hour posted on FB a fake document of an agreement between VN and Cambodia about erasing border between 2 countries. LOL :omghaha: if such agreement existed, Cambodia wouldn't have to waited for 20 years to bring it up.

Paranoia of Hun Sen. I think the old man was in power for way too long. Time for a change ?

Yep, I think this time Hun Sen was a little extreme. Calling the opposition leader "traitor" could lead to a civil conflict, especially over a FB post. But I still prefer Hun Sen over Sok Hour. Hun Sen might be having a civil war/ coup at hand, but if Sok Hour were in power, he would be more than happy to have an armed conflict with VN, especially with the support of his "foreign friends".

Probability of revolutions is higher in backward undeveloped countries, therefore it is expected that a revolution in Vietnam will more likely to happen first than a revolution in Cambodia.

I think with citizens like you, Phillipine is more likely to have a revolution. Or is it China, "Phillipinese"?

Why ?? Mr. Hun Sen was put in power by VN, and he's doing his job well for the benefit of VN. We VNese all love him. There is No reason to change that good old man

If he retired, then his son will be the best successor for this position:cheers:

Ahahah....must say im impressed by vietnams strategical thinking and moves. For such a small poor country to hold such sway/control over its neighbours even more than its farrr bigger neighbours is rather impressive. i am sure if Vietnam had even half Japans or Chinas power/capabilities it will be ruling SEA long time ago. It might even be as good in playing such geo political games over the world like we in the West/U.S have been ding for a long time. Well done Vietnam:enjoy:

If TPP come out and JP have to shift all of its factories from Thailand to VN to avoid being sued in TPP, then u will see VN also can put a pro-VN leader in Thai PM position coz without JP investment, Thailand will be as poor as VN now.

Its so funny when some CNese here blah blah abt Hun Sen as 'China's ally '. As u can see , VN still fight against CN Alone, we dont even use our 2 strong cards are Laos and Kam yet to strengthen our power . Maybe if we use Laos-Kam to strengthen our power now, we will become the target of US again like in 1979 instead of China

No you underestimate Hun Sen. He is not pro-Vietnam. He had been trained by Vietnam, so his diplomat policy is same as Vietnam. What is smart of him is Not only he does not want to offend Vietnam He tries to be friend with China, Japan and even U.S. as well as Thailand. Therefore, he got his back cover 360 degree.

Unlike dumb CNRP, this party provoke Vietnam to gain popularity, and Vietnam is friendly with Russia, U.S., France, Britain, Japan and other countries, so what this mean this CNRP party will not appeal to these countries. It can only seek for China, but by seeking for China means against U.S. and Japan. In other word CNRP is dumb party use nationalism and racism to gain popularity which no country wants to involve.
