China's telecommunication giant Huawei is all set to facilitate Bangladesh with technical support in the implementation of 5G technology.

According to a statement received in Dhaka, Huawei's Senior Vice President Bruce Li talked about their readiness to help Bangladesh launch 5G when meeting Bangladeshi Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar recently in the capital.

They also discussed and exchanged opinions about different issues of 5G technology including the challenges and possibilities, reports Xinhua.

Li said Bangladesh's progress in ICT sector is remarkable, and that 40 telecoms operators in over 20 countries are using 5G networks commercially.

According to the statement , Huawei has already signed more than 60 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global carriers and shipped more than 400,000 5G Massive MIMO active antenna units (AAUs) to global markets.

The production and supply of Huawei's optical transmission, data communications, and IT products grew steadily. And more than 700 cities, 228 Fortune Global 500 companies, and 58 Fortune Global 100 companies had selected Huawei as their partner for digital transformation, the statement said.

The minister said that facing the challenges of the digital new world, they are taking all the initiatives including the design to run 5G technology.

He also called 5G technology "incredible innovation of the ICT world," adding "5G technology will create a new world one day."

"Bangladesh has done digital revelation in every sector," the minister said. "Digitalization is ensured to the root level like Union Parishad of the country."

The Bangladesh minister applauded Huawei for its role in leading the way of digital Bangladesh with world-class advanced technology.

He also thanked Huawei for technical assistance in successfully completing the 5G trial test last year in the country.

Well what are the alternatives? Except US most of Europe is still in huawei camp

It's a US-centric issue. Huawei is in hot water in the US because US technical firms are falling behind Huawei.

Huawei have their own Android version mobile OS and are close to turning out a chip like the latest Qualcomm mobile chip for cellphones. As long as Chinese firms (Huawei, ZTE) were dependent on US technology - US govt. was fine with Huawei operating in US market, but no more. Alarm bells were rung by US companies and Huawei will not operate in US market anymore, barred by a number of flimsy excuses (technology theft, direct control and spying by Chinese govt. etc.).

It is true they got started copying CISCO and NORTEL network device technologies but they have progressed far beyond that with Chinese Central Govt. help to serve China's market. In the world they are now the forerunners of offering 5G base station technology and that too at half the cost of CISCO's stuff. CISCO has billions to lose, they just want to hold on to Western markets where they can at least sell some equipment.

Bangladesh has no skin in this game one way or the other. 95% of Bangladesh Cellphone tower base station equipment is made by Huawei which costs 30% or less than what US equipment costs. Huawei sells most of their stuff in Africa and Asia (not to say enough about the domestic China market stuff), also some of it in Europe - mostly Eastern Europe and Russia, though some Western Europe markets are also still served.

The US (and its technology companies) can try to stand in the way of Huawei's rise but this will be temporary.

We have nothing to lose and definitely some to gain by using Huawei's equipment, as we are price-sensitive still. And of course - there is no good alternative, unless our GDP per capita goes up at least two-fold.

Most of our service providers use Huawei equipments. Huawei techs are comparable to western companies techs and cheaper too...

You wouldn't think, but Huawei phones are rather popular in Canada. They're in the top 5 in terms of sales/market share (the others are Apple, Samsung, Oneplus and Google). The decision by the Canadian government to hand over the Huawei executive was seen as negative by many here.

Yes - Oneplus is also Chinese but backed by OPPO and rather high quality. Their latest phone the Oneplus 7 PRO is considered pretty close to the Samsung Galaxy 10 as far as display quality, color vibrancy, camera characteristics etc. and sells for $670 retail (before discounts). The previous model 6T is also on sale for around $600. Seriously thinking of getting one for black Friday which will have even steeper discounts.

T-Mobile offers OnePlus phones,

Huawei phones are not offered AFAIK by any US Carrier.

Huawei has been completely blocked from having anything to do with the 5g network setup in the 5 eyes and EU.

This is different from phone sales...no one have too much issue with that.
