Directly, but to use another analogy, it is like saying gasoline is not used in your car for steering. True the steering wheel is not powered by gasoline, but the engine which powers it is, so without the gasoline (muscles) your steering is not going to work. Same case here, the larger your muscles are the longer you can do an activity/exercise without getting tired.
