Media going gaga over HP launching a 'revolutionary' new computer concept. Checked out the video, and it's cooooooool as hell. I'd buy this over an Apple Mac anyday. The point to remember is that the scanner is 3D- so it's not just a picture that it's capturing but a 3 dimensional starture of whatever you place before it.

I think what they're doing from .29 to 1.5 is cool

That really is pretty cool, let's see how it works out. The idea is very good but they're going to need a decent processor, RAM, drives and other hardware to make it work properly, not to mention proper, compatible software. I imagine installing the drivers for that thing would be a nightmare. HP has a really good thing here, I sure hope it works out, I'd definitely buy it if I could afford it.

I believe they're gonna sell it in starting next month so I guess product specs have been frozen.

But without push back keys, people will end up with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Awesome. This is truly "out of the box thinking".

I can imagine this to be a super tool creativity tool in the hands of our PDF geniuses..

Call me a blind optimist. but still an optimist

At least you and I won't do what you just said.

Yes the 3D scanning technology is cool. But what kind of consumers really need it? I suspect most of them would be artists. However I think 3D artworks are better created electronically on the computer itself, not scanned in. This is no different than the traditional 2D artwork creations. In most cases a real artist would want to draw the picture rather than taking a photo graph. And in most 3D artwork creations such as 3D game, movies, it is cheaper and faster to create and animate the models in the computer than physically building them then scanning them.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 3D scanner. I just don't think it's such a difference maker like the iPhone, not even close. It seems a lot of resource of this computer is used on this feature. They better keep the price reasonable, otherwise people will forget about it pretty quickly.
