What's new

How would you deal with this situation if you were the chief executive of Pakistan right now?

Good points.

Some unconventional steps that needs to be taken.

1. Enforce a max 3 child policy
2. Make cousin sisters marriage illegal (impacts logical thinking)
3. Focus on education
4. Rely on a process oriented approach rather than a knee jerk individual approach
5. Reduce defense budget by 20% atleast
6. Tax un used land
7. Foreign policy based on non alignment. Have good relations with everyone.
8. Any dishonest individual should not be allowed to hold any public office for life

Solutions are simple. But nobody wants to implement it.

But for the above to happen, the system needs a rejig. A revolution or something close to that needs to happen.

Otherwise we’re looking at a 5 decade time window here.

Yeah, but the powerbrokers obviously weren't on the same page.

Basically, at some point, the ones with the most power must decide...

Do they want to be a poor country that others laugh at? Or do they want to become a great power?

When the 'ones in charge' learn to 'grow out of themselves' and push for more, then we will see more. However, as of right now, our society's leaders don't want to climb above whatever they have going right now. Not only that, but our people aren't really concerned about the 'big vision,' but are more focused on living day-to-day. So, as long as our leaders can deliver half-hearted solutions (like subsidies) to keep stomachs semi-full, the people won't really push them to think bigger and better. We're caught in a circle of mediocrity.

Now, if people's hunger gets out of control (due to chronic long-term inflation, unemployment, etc), then yes, the pressure might hit the leaders and force them to seriously change their views. Sadly, however, Pakistani elites are "deeht" in all the wrong ways and are known for literally breaking a country into two because they don't care. So, let's see...
Pakistan is the spiritual, moral and ethical successor to the British Raj in most aspects.

And I don’t mean it just from the security angle - the society runs the same feudal system the brits used to control the place and it percolates throughout the classes.

For this discussion, let us first start with some prerequisites.

The present situation is not just weeks and months in the making, or even years. This has been decades in the making, and will likely take as long as that to resolve. However, there are a few steps that can be taken in the short term to reduce the likelihood of further deterioration. The next thing to consider is the actual authority of the PM of Pakistan as it exists in reality, and not as the portrayal. For anything to be effective as suggested below, there must be changes that allow the PM the full spectrum of authority to be available to deal with the responsibilities of the position. Whether this is possible or not is another discussion entirely.

There are four important aspects to the present crisis: financial, economic, social, and defense.

Dealing with the financial crisis is fairly straightforward: agree upon the appropriate IMF program, and then successfully complete it, a feat that has never been achieved before. Let there be the determination not to let the difficulty of the adjustments be used as an excuse to not meet the specified goals, specially on the political front. It would be important to have everyone realize that even if the adjustments are done stepwise and not all at once, the long delayed pain will be fairly acute and sharp, no matter what. There is no way around this for anyone.

The economic crisis is much deeper that just the current imbalance of the government's books. To put it bluntly, it is an absolute disgrace just how pathetically low the economic output of a nation of 230 million has become. To begin tackling this, get the energy sector in order by dealing with the circular debt and letting free market mechanisms take hold rather than bureaucratic mismanagement, and giving the few remaining sections of the economy that produce exportable tangibles a free reign for needed inputs on a war footing.

The longer terms fixes require huge social changes: provision of health, education and justice. Two basic requirements are needed across changes of government so that consistent progress can be achieved: goal-oriented management, and appropriate funding. Making consistent policies in both domains will need commitment from all parties not to reverse any agreed upon steps upon change of government for short term political gains.

The last item is perhaps the most difficult and relates to defense of the realm. Is Pakistan ready to grow from its present demented mindset of being nothing more than a security state to becoming a state that benefits its citizens? What is needed to begin this transition is perhaps beyond the scope of the present discussion, but is included here just to highlight the importance of such a transition to make all of the above possible in an enduring manner.
A great thread and a great question. How to deal with the current situation. My one important question what is the current situation. Cause till now no one has pin pointed the core problem and every one is saying current situation with out diagnosing the disease. No one has told the reason that led to this current situation. I am not talking about the political reason or change of govt reason but what was that IK was doing correct and this govt is not doing it?
What problem had IK identified and this govt is over looking it and this all economic situation has happened. Why IK was able to maneuver successfully through waves of Covid and this Govt is failing?
We have not found the problem and we are looking for a solution. And solution to what? It is the same country with same economical resources and same economical life line and yet why are we going to the path of economic disaster?
PMLN is doing everything to get a IMF loan but that loan will not help them at all cause their thinking is at fault and they don't know the problem which they will have to solve. If PMLN fails to recognize the issue people will throw them out with or without IK. They have have at max 15 to 20 days to correct the economical trajectory of this country.
IK was focused on CAD (Current Account Deficit) Which PMLN will never try to fix and they will end up going into a trash can faster than IK can throw them there.
IK had a concentrated focus and a set plan to take this country to new heights. Where as this govt want to get loans and follow IMF's desired inflation. Mifta Ismail only know how to sell candies and how to control dollar and make candy raw material cheap and run a domestic economy he is not fit for his office he lacks a lot of skills.

Under IK Pakistan started exporting SUV's. If this govt wants to survive the need to learn a lot from IK's economic success and follow the same path.

Pakistan exports its first SUV class vehicle

From an SUV exporter to Bankruptcy just in 7 day bravo idiot govt. This govt needs to subsidies exports instead of IMF loan. That was the key to IK's economical success.

.
I will say there are some basic three points which we need to correct such as:
1- Most of our system is not practical. not practical means e.g. a labour earning 10-15k a month if any injustice happend to him he cannot afford to take justice from the court. also he cannot stand for election. my point is rules laws should be such that every poor and rich can avail them with justice.
2- Second point is Obediance comes under the righteous ness. no blind following. i will explain this point e.g a 17 scale govt officer see his senior is ordering him to do some wrong thing and he still obeys him.
3- this is the most important point. our thoughts are contained since from the very childhood. e.g. a child if ask some difficult questions; our parents and teachers shut them up..so many things in our life we are following but there is no logic not from wahee or from science. This thing from the very beginning make us the way that we dont use our mind and keep doing what others do may they be wrong or useless things. this is also the thing which let us behind the west in new technology and research.

we need to ask some basic questions: e.g. take the political party system in pakistan are they all democratics? by the way they are saying democracy democray where their own party follows dictorship. another thing to be elected as MPA or MNA you need to spend crores of money then tell me how can they after becoming MNA or MPA will not do corruption atleast they will try to recover the money they have spent becomng MNA or MPA? is this system practical? if tomorrow their is system which bans all kind of spending in compaign and also bans party funds and contribution and then the govt allocate money for the election and also arrange a stage for all the nominees in a halka be NA or Provincial and they all do their speeches to take vote and the people then decide without spending their own money then only we can get people which wont do corruption because they havenot spent their own money becoming an MNA or MPA.

I also dont understand this justice system and what for the laywer is ? can a poor labour earning 10-15k hire a laywer for his/her case? how he can get the justice which is free of cost? why he must hire the lawyer which will charge money which a poor cannot afford? this system is there since from pakistan emergence and it is totally impractical. similarly there are many such examples but no one is thinking like this..leave aside dicussing them.. a system should be equal and just to everyone ranging from the poorest like beggers to the richest..

All govt officers who are either dual national or have some child or wife who is foreign national must resign with all looted money returned.
No family can possess more than 100 acres of land in total.
Pension for everyone who is paying tax.
All govt school teachers have to pass the job exam once again. If not then they can go home.
Pak railways will be purged asap. All transport in Pakistan will be brought under pak safar department.
Bread and rice prices will be lowered and fixed for the next two years.
Audit all money borrowed so far, and the ones who spent it will pay it. The otherwise same type of killing as Mossad did to Nazis all over the world where ever they will run.
Investigation on IMF and other money lenders who bribed Pakistani bureaucracy. Cases on them in international courts. Until they offer to let their lended money go.
1948 type operation on Kashmir. Daikhty hain kia ukhar lyga india.
Division of existing provinces into smaller provinces.
Shifting of capital from Islamabad to the middle of Pakistan.
Merging of police and intelligence bureau. Reinstate the status of FIA.
3 more ports on the coastal line.
Fuel prices fixed on yearly 2 yearly bases.
Cottage industry promotion and making Pakistan a manufacturing hub.
Ban on noneducated professionals ie if a barber is operating a shop he should get a certificate first. Life allowance during the training period. Step by step transformation of the whole society. 5% of the budget on Training and education.

Kam boht sara hai kerny wala.

Or Haan, meanwhile be ready to get killed with family.

There is nothing about our current situation that is hard to understand or implement. If there are political costs, then call re-elections and let caretaker govt do the necessary. This won’t happen because ofc the truth is that PDM rightly assesses they will get wiped out in elections so they want to borrow to the tee to give lollipops as necessary. They’d rather try their chances in a year or two then now.

.
You can add to that :
3) Pass a patriotism law if anyone I mean ANYONE caught utter rubbish Pakistan nation on traitorism they should go to jail for 3 years depending on severity fines.
We have laws for that , again boils down to judiciary and implementation of law.

Is there a scientific evidence of that? It is generally known that cousin marriages have higher chances of passing genetic disorders.

Why would you want to put all eggs in one (China) basket?

It’s always prudent to diversify.
