You can't beat export subsidised products from China. The only way is to increase the import cost for them.

Most chinese manufacturers are making phones in India now, so that excuse is moot. I hate Micromax's decision to stick with Mediatek processors, and not going for Snapdragon.

They only have just two models. MediaTek is a logical decision, they're not as expensive as SD and performance is comparable to SD. Even Xiaomi started using MediTek to reduce cost. Also, the Chinese are not sourcing components from India, they're still importing components they still assemble parts.

The ecosystem is better now. We are capable of manufacturing most of the parts in India. We have advanced in Battery, charging, Display unit, mobile body and other parts manufacturing. We just have to import Semiconductor chips, cameras and other high-tech items. We need big Indian companies to enter this area. Micromax won't do.

TATA might do it.
Yes, if TATA is to enter this area, they can bring many American companies to manufacture 100% mobile parts in India. The govt has announced $1B subsidy in Semi-fab manufacturing. If TATA enters a joint venture with Snapdragon, Mediatek etc, they can surely make it to 100% Made in India.

That'd be interesting, I'm not sure TATA has that in mind. They're mostly trying to manufacture components like batteries, and things that require a lot of chemicals because TATA can easily source them from their own company.
