There are roughly more people living in once the Capital of Pakistan and Pakistan's industrial and business hub, the largest city of Pakistan, than there dwell in the whole continent of Australia.

Karachi gives shelter to almost as many people as live in the Sindh Province outside Karachi, and as many as live in the whole province of Khaiber Pakhtunkhwa.

Yet, this wonderful city of the colonial era was plundered and ruined again and again and was left at the mercy of armed gangs.

I am a dweller of this city. And I shall tell you of my experience of living here, and the discrimination I feel to be facing.

Let's begin from politics:

There are 61 National Assembly (General) Seats allotted to the Province Sindh. And Karachi's share is only 20.

Khaiber Pakhtoonkhwa has 35 seats though it has almost the same population as of Karachi.

This is an important question, that was not raised and fought by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement which claimed to be representing Karachiites.

.
Let me show you some pictures which will themselves tell the whole story:

The Crime of Pakistan People's Party

The Racist founder of Pakistan People's Party, Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto, introduced a quota system to bless Sindhi speaking people under which the Sindhi speakers were preferred for jobs, and most of the resources of the province were spent on rural areas compared to urban areas. Sindh's urban areas include Karachi, Hyderabad and some other cities.

Im a half black half indian pakistani canadian who ran away with my gay latino boyfriend and dropped out of school. now i live my days advancing Imran Khan's GAY #PRIDE agenda in PAKISTAN <3.

is that what you wanted to hear?

In Canada, some people are cleaning toilet and they don't know what democracy is.

Who Planted Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi

It says that it was Pakistan's military establishment of Gen. Zia-ul-Haq who allowed MQM to operate in the Urban Sindh in order to control PPP. Well, the strategy failed miserably, as the people of Karachi suffered from this for decades.

Are the NA seats fixed? Are the number of seats assigned not based on the population? If true this nothing but legalized rigging of elections.

I understand the concerns of Pakistanis like the above two responses; they think if Karachi is given its due share, it maybe misused by MQM like Awami League did in East Pakistan.

Now there are two angles to this question.

One is, you need to clean the mess that you yourselves have created in this city.

Two is, if Karachi doesn't get its due share despite 'a clean up' then it will make people think that there's something amiss. Perhaps Racism or maybe the feudal elite of Pakistan which is based in Punjab and Sindh is not willing to lose grip of political power that it has been enjoying unevenly and unlawfully.

I'm not talking about the upcoming elections. I'm talking about 2013 election and those held earlier.

In one constituency of Karachi population wise, many constituencies of rural areas of Punjab, Sindh etc maybe contained.

And it means that illiterate villagers are allowed to decide the fate of this country ignoring the literate masses of Karachi. Take this as a rule. Forget about MQM for a while; MQM has been part of the oppressing political elite.

On a serious note it is disturbing to see Karachi walay cry about 'bad service'. If you ever step out of your comfy little city into rural sindh then you will see what actual negligence looks like.
On top of that Karachi soaks up Sindh's budget like crazy. Karachi walay have absolutly no reason to complain when you consider the plight of rural sindhis

.
Sindh has been ruined by PPP (which has also ruined entire country along with PMLN), and MQM has ruined karachi.

I'm also living in Karachi .. came here also a pause of several years.

And what I saw .. horrified me... once a beautiful city .. now looks like a fukin garbage bin.

.
Karachi population have increased but seats are distributed based on 1998 census (or its 1981?). What ever population is of Karachi right now we don't know, could be 20 million or 30m.

This is not true. This is not 'Karachi walay' who are treating the poor masses of Interior Sindh like insects. I do realise the situation in rural Sindh is too bad, worse than those areas in Punjab and KP. But 'Karachi walay' are not responsible for this, it's the Sindh's Jiyalay of PPP who are the actual criminals. Sindhis vote for PPP but they don't get drinking water, electricity and other basic facility just outside Larkana.

Now if the illiterate poor masses of Sindh can't cry for justice, because they've been oppressed by the Wadera Saeen, it doesn't mean Karachiites should also tape their mouths for the fear of oppressors.

The Reason

why I have raised this issue is resources are allocated in a political system according to the number of seats in the Parliament. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now let's say there are 120,000 voters in one constituency of Karachi besides 100,000 outsiders (non-voters from Punjab, KP, Rural Sindh etc who have come for work). In this situation, resources are allocated for 120,000 persons while the area is inhabited by 220,000 persons. So, there will be insufficient number of hospitals, schools etc. And that is the actual problem of Karachi.

This is not just a city, this is mini-Pakistan. Treat it like a motherly state!

I doubt that. Majority of the Pashtun dwellers of Karachi are carrying domiciles of KP and FATA, not of Sindh/Karachi.

.
You can keep complaining about PPP all you want. Most sindhis no longer support them. In the past decade theres been a wave of urbanization among Sindhis which has also lead to decline of Punjab inspired feudal culture.
In the next decade Sindh will decide its fate by itself. We are very much tired of the Karachi/Punjab centric status quo and the Sindhis have are very aware on the ground realities of Pakistan. Soon a new wave of nationalism will spring up in Sindh.

JSQM is just a mouthpiece which may inspire people with lengthy speeches, in practical, they have failed. And the reason is lack of vision and narrow mindedness.

This is not East Pakistan, and you can't give birth to a Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman in a 100 years. Altaf Hussain was way smarter than JSQM leaders, yet he's living like a bug now.

I doubt that. Majority of the Pashtun dwellers of Karachi are carrying domiciles of KP and FATA, not of Sindh/Karachi.

This is what is my point brother. Majority population of Karachi is of work-immigrants from KP, Punjab, Rural Sindh etc. who are not entitled to vote in Karachi but they share resources with permanent dwellers of the city.

Increasing the number of NA seats for Karachi doesn't mean they will be occupied by the 'ethnic party'. Maybe ANP, JI, even PTI and PML(N) will get the benefit of that.

.
Its not just JSQM anymore. You have people like Ayaz Latif Palijo who are coming into the field. Sindhi nationalists have learnt alot from the mismanagement that PPP had have in fact been strengthened by the Punjab centric direction that 'Pakistan' is taking again.
If you visit Thatta or Tandojam etc and ask a few people what they think about PPP or Pakistan. They will be very frank with you on how they feel about the federation at this point.

I don't mind if in next election JSQM or other nationalists dominate and even form a government. But if they get the opportunity to govern, they have to make a difference. They have to first give education to the illiterate masses of Sindh. You can get a University degree in Sindh without even sitting exam. And I bet nationalists are part of such crimes along with PPP.

I don't know about old census. But this time around people will be counted where they live and not from place of origin. Also overseas Pakistanis with more then 6 months away will not be counted. But I think PPP will drag this till 2023 and not allow redistribution of seats for 2018 election.

decline of Punjab inspired feudal culture.

It's other way around, Sindh feudal culture is unique. Only south punjab have that but to much much smaller scale then what we see in Sindh. Feudal culture will not go away till redistribution of land in Sindh. And all of Sindh politicians tend to be feudals with large tract of land.

LOL now i understand this Hamzay guys 'plight'
typical ex-altafist mqm thug who wants everything torn down once it hits the fan for them. LOL this behaviour has existed in altafists for a long time...how did i not even see this coming?

Stick to reality, Karachi has been home for its countrymen but did not get anything in return, sanitary conditions worst than ever, public transport, circular railway, metro bus, nothing... Even there is fight for rights b/w MQM and PPP, and PPP govt spend 9yrs for nothing. This they suddenly started building roads and underpasses at every turn and created havoc and traffic jams, but atleast it started.
