It required a masterstroke to kill Abu Qasim, the head of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Jammu and Kashmir. Qasim who had masterminded the Udhampur attack was killed recently by the armed forces. How did the Indian army do this?

It was well known fact that Qasim would seek shelter in a base that is not too familiar with him. In a recent encounter, Qasim had got the better of the Jammu and Kashmir police and even gunned down a decorated officer Altaf Dar.

The army had been constantly monitoring Qasim and wanted to strike at him on a turf that he was unfamiliar with. There is a major rift between the Lashkar and the Hizbul Mujahideen in Kashmir today and the army being well aware of this pushed Qasim into a base of the latter.

The army began putting out information about a possible operation against Qasim which led him to moving out of his stronghold. He walked into a base at Khulgam which is a stronghold of the Hizbul Mujahideen.

The Hizbul which wants the Lashkar weakened in Jammu and Kashmir leaked information about Qasim’s specific location.

Qasim during the encounter with the army found that he was lacking the crucial local support that he always relied upon and this helped the army get the better of him.

Hell even Muslim terrorists can't stay and fight like one.... :)

The terrorists have a habit of becoming factionalized. This is seen in each and every militant group. The fact is that when these militants do not have any other non muslim to kill they attack their own comrades. Though the problem in Kashmir is home-grown mostly the problem of support and sympathy for those using violent means and conservative mindset is a problem. It is also clear in the Mullah Umar's succession issue.

Many people support this even though as stated in my book Jihad today has become a rallying cry for a great amount of attrocities. There is fault in India too here but the sick nature of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar E Toiba is revealed here as they claim to fight for kashmiris and kill other residents of Jammu and Kashmir other than each other. Fighting is only useful when there is major support and a chance we can win. Otherwise its terrorism.

I cite the example of the battle of Hudaibah. Muhammed SAW did not fight until he had the means to do so and win.

My views on Lashkar and Hizbul Mujahideen may not be supported but I do also see this for Pakistan as a matter of priorities. Why go after the softer militant groups like LeT and HuM, HUJI among others when there is a clear threat and real threat from the TTP which is very aggressively attacking us. A nation focuses on those groups that are killing its people first rather than focusing on those killing others. I would go after LeT and gang but only after LeJ and TTP are completely destroyed. We should not succumb to pressure on this-pressure that led to JuD ban without knowing in reality if it is really terrorist.
