No...the gathering at Jalianwala was not at all aimed at instilling a rebellion on the lines of 1857!!!
It was in public knowledge...that the demonstration was held to demand the release of two Gandhiwadi leaders...and there was no call-to-arms cry...
There was no warning..there were no shots in the air...
the meeting was perfectly democratic...this part makes all the difference in understanding the nature of Jalianwala....
Your points are very valid when looking at a democratic setup, but was it under British Rule??? BUddy please understand the colonial mind set, heck the education system that was given was just to breed clerks and sepoys, no??? So my advice please do keep that in mind....
Mind it i am not for once trying ot justify Jallianwala bagh...I would be lunatic to do that....My only debate is are foot soldiers equally guilty...i believe no they are not....there is not one thing martial or civilian that can justify jalianwala...the shooting was an act of desperation on the part of Dyer...it was unjust not one man lauded it except the governor of Punjab...who was killed later by Udham singh..(not Dyer)...That is why I mentioned in my previous post had they targeted some of the Krantikari fellows...it'd still make sense...this is beyond justifiable...
The point is that general was given the minimum possible punishment over a massacre of such a large scale and that too after a good time delay...People in England did not even come to know about this issue till late december...Such was the sorry state of affairs...Jallianwala Bagh's like massacres can be counted on fingures and yet look at the final punishment...a court martial...This shows you the metality of British rulers, imagine the state of a foot soldier who dispbey his master.....The point is the world saw his actions as unjust...
You can't compare Kashmir to Jalianwala at all....!
there is no similarity...The Kashmiri protestors are not hunt down and shot!
They are given all the seven steps to stand down and go back...!
It's not they who get cornered...it is the police...!
Talk to someone serving in Kashmir.
There has been not one Indian equivalent of Dyer...
When soldiers in Kashmir are asked to shoot...they shoot as they see the protesters coming at them...hurling stones...did the same happen in Jalianwala?
See i am bringing in Kashmir only to draw some analogy(which i know is not correct) that foot soldier will shoot when the commanding officer orders....He/she will be least interested in finding out if someone is hurling stones at them or not....Anyways Tienaman Square is another prime example of such a kind....there is a saying you are as good as your boss....However i understsand your POV as well....
I am little embarrased that even after being a sikh i put in that kind of nonsensical line....Yes Udham singh killed Michael O'Dwyer and not general dyer...thanks for the correction...Udham Singh didn't lay a finger on Dyer...he killed the British Guv Gen of Punjab who lauded Dyer's actions...
