I am aware of this however what i wanted to say was that Taiwan more or less is independent, they have defence pacts with the US, buys weapons from them, even an embassy there (If i am not wrong), Why is a than a formal independence declaration needed for China to forcefully reunite the island? Why wait?
On a side note what are the taiwense people take on all of this? With China's massive economy it would be hard for them to resist the unification with the main land.
I think You misunderstood my intentions for something else. Believe me as a Pakistani nothing would rejoice me than Taiwan re-uniting with China.
We prefer a Peaceful unification if possible. Like when my city (Hong Kong) was reunited with the Mainland in 1997. It's much simpler that way.
War will only happen if there is no chance of a Peaceful unification, i.e. if Taiwan changes their constitution to seek formal independence.
That would trigger the 2005 Anti-Secession Law, and force a military response as the only possible outcome.
