Its not the question if death penalty should be abolished or not.The question should be asked if it is applied uniformly? If kasab deserves death penalty then so do Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi.
Kasab is a foreigner who committed terrorism against the nation. The other two are political goons who instigated communal violence. There is a difference. Its not just for moral purposes that Kasab must be executed, but also to send out a message that we deal with instances of "war against the state" in a serious fashion.
As for Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi, their long prison terms are appropriate. Let them stay in Jail and rot, and live every moment of their lives knowing they wont be free ever. Remember the death penalty is the easiest way out. So in effect these two have gotten the tougher sentence.
