HJ-12 | Chinese Top Attack ATGM

In Indo Pak scenario specially in dessert those troops will be pron to enemy artillery fire and tank fire due to availability to different detection systems like WLRs, IR systems etc and its not easy to hide in dessert when enemy is well equipped even with tactical UAVs. It may work in Punjab sector as infantry men may have means to hide but in modern warfare range of 2000 meters is not good enough for conventional war, but still it will work for PA as our soldiers will put their lives in the line of fire to protect the nation.

The range is the same is the highly effective and successful javelin and it's highly mobile. Our enemy to the east is planning to acquire large number of javelins.

If you compare HJ-12 with Javelins it supersedes it in day time strike range which is 4000 meters which India is purchasing, although later can achieve 4750 meters in some scenarios, but it is not important, what is important is that HJ-12 fits our needs / doctrine (specially because it is a fire n forget man portable type of system which we have lacked till now) as we will be facing fast moving IBGs to stop them these will be one important weapon along with other systems like Cirit, UMTAS/OMTAS etc.

@Basel - Its well suited for SSG.

Not just SSG, it can be game changer along with Mi-35s, T-129 against IBG threat posed from India, PA will be able to deploy ATGM teams rapidly through Mi-35s and other helicopter to halt advancing IBGs while other heavy assets are on the way to take positions on border.

Specially Mi-35 upgraded with latest goodies and ATGM teams can be really good asset against advancing armor.

Relax, we'll flood the area with water before the IBGs arrive to slow them down. Then we can take them down easily :D

.
Plus, IBGs would have to contend with heavy MRLS and arty fire before they come face to facecwith our forces. The way I see it, weapons like Hj-12 provides heavy firepower and force multiplier effect even to a small mobile squad of infantry.

HJ-12 is good news for Pakistan & Turkey Is Also Developing Javelin type ATGM what would make this even sweeter is if we acquire Chinese sensor fuzed ammunition which can eliminate armor at whole sale rate fine picking can be done by ATGM.

Turkey's javelin equivalent is KMTAS... All we have to do now is to focus on our economy for 4-5 years and unlike the past we won't be denied modern weaponry anymore.

Anti-tank weapon to bolster PLA capability

2014-08-26 08:53

From GPS-enabled helmets and long-range night vision goggles to high-powered sniper rifles, the Chinese military has continued upgrading equipment.

Now, the People's Liberation Army ground force will have another new state-of-the-art weapon in its arsenal-the HJ-12 anti-tank missile, which can destroy tanks at a distance of more than 4 km.

The missile was developed by China North Industries Group Corp, one of the major defense contractors for the PLA ground force.

The weapon will enable the PLA to catch up with the antitank combat capability of its Western and Russian counterparts and help it gain a bigger share in the international military equipment market, according to industry analysts.

"The HJ-12 is much more advanced than the anti-tank missiles currently used by the PLA ground force. It has a host of cutting-edge technologies that have been adopted by its most powerful counterparts in Western armies," said a military expert with knowledge of the HJ-12's development who declined to be named.

"Besides the PLA, I think its potential buyers will be militaries from developing countries that have to deal with third-generation tanks," he added. "But considering its possibly high price, the number of buyers will be small."

Globally, the market for portable, anti-tank missiles is dominated by Western and Russian products, such as the United States' FGM-148 Javelin and Russia's AT-13 Saxhorn-2.

The lack of a portable antitank missile has compromised the PLA's ability to attack enemy tanks and hindered efforts to modernize the arsenal for its infantry.

Jane's Defence Weekly reported that the HJ-12 features fire-and-forget capability and automatic self-guidance instruments, and it can be fired within buildings and bunkers due to its soft launch system.

The fire-and-forget technology, which does not require further guidance after launch, such as illumination of the target or wire guidance, is an important property for a guided weapon to have, since a person or vehicle that lingers near the target to guide the missile is vulnerable to attack and unable to carry out other tasks.

"The technology will help reduce the number of anti-tank missile operators deployed at a single battlefield, lowering probable casualties," said Li Xiaojian, editor at cjdby.com, one of the biggest military forums in China.

Tao Mujian, a commentator on defense technology, said: "The PLA has had several new types of infantry fighting vehicles, but their anti-tank weapon is still the HJ-73, a Soviet-developed missile that is too old to hit today's tanks. The HJ-12 will complement its weakness in anti-tank combat, bringing a revolutionary change to the land force."

Plus the AFT-10 FOGM

We are pretty done as far as anti-tank missiles are concerned。:D

For PLA Army soldiers, HJ-12 top attack ATGM much more important than AFT-10 FOGM. Two solders can carry one HJ-12, AFT-10 is so heavy that need special launch vehicle.

I can't wait to see pics of HJ-12 in PLA Army, PLA will have a new powerful weapon like javelin .

AFT-10 FOGM seems to be portable too(Not as portable as HJ-12). I remember of seeing the picture of AFT-10 operate by an infantry on ground.

India media mocked that HJ-12 is not affordable for PA. The reaction from many Chinese military forum fans is that we could send it free to Pakistan when our brothers need it. It would be sarcastic if PA can get HJ12 before IA get Javelin.

Very obviously that HJ-12 is deterimental threat to IA's T90 MBT.

I think PA will be the first customer invited to test it if they show interests.
