Lets start with the Somnath temple in Gujarat

Temple01.jpg

Heritage & History behind it:
Located in the state of Gujarat in India, the famous Somnath Temple is a very sacred Hindu pilgrimage site. Somnath temple symbolizes the fact that the power of creation is always more than the power of destruction.
The architecture of the present temple reflects the Chalukya style of construction. The intricate and flawless carvings speak volumes about the skilled artisans of Gujarat. An inscription on the Arrow Pillar on the sea protection wall states that there is no piece of land between the point where the temple stands and Antarctica.

In 1024, the temple was destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni, who raided the temple from across the Thar Desert. The temple was rebuilt by the King Bhoj of Malwa and the Solanki king Bhimdev I between 1026 and 1042. The temple was once again destroyed by Allauddin Khilji's army and Raja Karan of Gujarat was defeated and forced to flee.

Delhi - Heritage & History behind it:
The city is believed to be the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata. The earliest architectural relics date back to the Maurya period (c. 300 BC)
Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires & has always been the power center of south Asia for the past thousand years.

Red Fort

Red fort is one of the great historical monument of India. First of all we will start from its name. It is known as red fort because there is too much use of red stones in construction of red fort. And because of the extensive use of red stones in the great walls of the fort it is known as red fort (LAL QILA). In 1638 Mughal king Shah Jahan has decided to shift his capital in Delhi from Agra and thus Shah Jahan started the construction of red fort at the bank of the Yamuna river in old Delhi. He assigns Ustad Ahmed and Ustad humid as an architect for constructing a royal palace. Construction of red fort was completed by Shah Jahan in the year of 1648. Red fort is originally known as 'Qila-I-Mubarak'. The reason behind this name is that it was the residence of the royal family.

Kerala
Muziris : The biggest port in the world in its time & most important port of Indian Ocean trade.

Muziris was an ancient seaport and urban center in south-western India (in Kerala) that dates from at least the 1st century BC, if not before it. Muziris has found mention in the bardic Sangam literature and a number of classical European historical sources

For many years, people have been in search of the almost mythical port, known as Vanchi to locals. Much-recorded in Roman times, Muziris was a major center for trade between Rome and southern India - but appeared to have simply disappeared.

A fabled port once, now lost to the mists of time, Muziris was the centre of the spice trade to the markets of West Asia and Europe. Archaeological excavations in the area across the river from Cherai revealed the first site in the Indian Ocean to yield archaeological evidence of Mediterranean, North African, West Asian and Chinese maritime contacts. Radiocarbon dating of specimens revealed that the age of some of the objects go back to around 1300 BC to 100 BC.
