BD is at last doing something right for her air defense!!! 50 years into existence, yet not 50 decent jets in her air force!!! In fact, she has only 8 front-line jets purchased in 1999...

They want to add 36-50 eurofighters and should purchase 100-200 TFX when it's ready to roll out. BD airforce will be the strongest in subcontinent come 2030

However, their impediment is their politics! The current regime, which came to power with a 100% rigged election, depends on the minority Hindus and India for their survival via ruthless oppression of the opposition that is pro-Muslim! And, they're one of the top 5 most corrupt Mafia regimes in the world! Now, they've to choose b/w the China-Russia vs the India-West block......

yes, but 100 200 TFX is over capability for BAF, 36/70 would be fine for BAF

Yes I agree on this part 100-200 will be overkill

All that is a myth. Each regime view their sovereignty unapologetically so it doesn't matter whos at the helm they will spend on defense and strengthen their capabilities

I wish it were true for BD too....

In fact, BD had a professional and well trained military that could rise up to the challenges. And, it proved its mettle a number of times - in COIN ops, against India and Burma etc. But, this present regime started their tenure by arranging scores of military officers to be killed in the most heinous manner while their wives and daughter got raped! And, it made BD's military a unprofessional one, and only to be good to be the private goons of this Mafia regime....

For 72 hours Burma had the complete air superiority over BD during the Rohinga crisis, and BAF's incompetence was by design...

The current PM's entire family got killed by the ex Pak military members of the BD Army
, who were staunchly anti-India. She and India would ensure it never repeats....

The following Al-Jazeera documentary leaves nothing to imagination as far as the current state of the BD military is concerned. Hopefully, some day it'll change...

Like with anything in our part of the world, politics too is driven on the power of individuals. When Hasina says goodbye to this world, the house of cards called AL will rupture. Not sure if there is a strong enough dynastic proclivity in BD. My sense of Bengals is they are not too keen of dynastic rule.

I am well aware of their current airforce and yes Burma has advantage as it stands there. BD never intervened and also BD will not be assertive until it is fully ready and primed just give it a decade and be patient you will see significiant change as they are doing major upscaling in their defense. I would also go out on a limp and say BD will have a stronger army than PK come 2040.. I also believe personally that BD have smarter politics than PK and knows how to play the long game intelligently and everything has it's time. Time is on BD side and imo they will excel both in defense local productions and armements.. Be patient and watch as time passes by until 2030 remember what I said here. BD is trending upwards in Economy, developments, and in every field they will make a great leap and the only reason they were behind was because it is a much younger country than everyone else but at the same time smarter than both PK and India it has already past them in economy and developments but the military will also follow. Time will prove my observations and predictions

As gracious and kind as your comments are about our armed forces, I believe the future holds only qualitative improvements for the army, navy and air-force - not quantitative ones. Bangladesh needs to defend our sovereignty with improvements in quality of resources, equipment and personnel (and not just quantity) from now on.

Pakistan's armed forces are maintained at altogether different readiness levels because of belligerent posture with India, there is no comparison with Bangladesh forces. The funds and resources expended in Pakistan for their armed forces are also at another level compared to Bangladesh (GDP level wise). So - we will have different composition for our armed forces by 2040, ours will have some better weapons compared to today, but I wouldn't venture a comparison with Pakistan. The strategy and engagement rules are different (even when belligerence does break out, which I hope it doesn't).

We need peace in the subcontinent to better the living standards of our populace WHILE defending against any threats to our national sovereignties. Peace must be the first option.

However I am not an expert on Bangladesh armed forces doctrine, I only scratch the surface with my comments and my proof/evidence is only anecdotal, not gained by personal experience by being an ex-military person.

Bangladesh in area is very small, much smaller than the area of Pakistan, and is surrounded on three sides by India and on one side by Myanmar. Also, the terrain/climate/fighting tactics are very different in Bangladesh compared to Pakistan.

That dictates different engagement strategy for all armed forces groups, particularly for the air force...but also for army in the sense of the seasons in which warfighting engagements can occur...

Indian army did not dare set foot in Bangladesh territory from March until late November in 1971. Their commanders knew what they'd be getting into and wisely delayed incursion of mechanized infantry. They let the Bangladeshi fighters fight their war via attrition.

However, more on point, by 2040 I see an expeditionary rapid-response elite amphibious commando component (Bangladesh Marines) group being raised for operations that combine elite naval, air force and army components and tactics. It could benchmark the Royal, PLAMC and US Marines practices and have their own warfighting assets, just like those marine forces do.

I am sure in this sense the Pakistan Marines would be a great example to emulate as well.
