NEW DELHI: The BJP was at the receiving end over a Wikileaks cable expose on Saturday after the whistleblower site revealed senior leader Arun Jaitley told a US diplomat that Hindu nationalism is an "opportunistic issue" for his party.

"Pressed on the question of Hindutva, Jaitley argued that Hindu nationalism 'will always be a talking point' for the BJP. However, he characterised this as an opportunistic issue," Robert Blake, the Charge at the US Embassy, said to his government after a meeting with Jaitley on May 6, 2005.

The new cable gave fodder to the Congress to criticise the BJP. "BJP disrupted Parliament over Wikileaks. Now they need to answer the nation about the views of their leader," said Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed on Saturday. Until Saturday, the Congress and the government had limited their comments on Wikileaks as the "personal opinion of embassy officials" and "unverfiable sources"

Jaitley said "opportunistic" could be the "diplomat's own usage". "The use of the word 'opportunistic' in reference to nationalism or Hindu nationalism is neither my view nor my language," he said. The BJP's defence of Jaitley was along the same lines.

We are not supporting BJP because they are Hinduvadi. It goes without saying. Development and anti - appeasement is their main poll plank.

Hey psycopath, why are you beating dead horse. It's almost 3 year old article and then Modi was not in picture.
