Hijab And Corporate Morality — Orya Maqbool Jan

Except for the nuns (and muslim girls) I've not seen such dress code imposed on anyone.
Imposed? Really? I see girls dying to impress their crush but it would kill them to respect themselves by listening to god? Interesting...Do you have kids? Do you impose some rules and regulations on them?

I am saddened to hear you have not seen or heard of women who choose to cover up over being imposed!

I am also surprised you have not heard of the Amish or are just ignorant?

In any case, these days most of the girls in this country wear abaya's with long slits and semi transparent head scarf, so I guess such dress code is loosing its charm.
Yea after all everyone is attracted to hell and Satan ;)

It is easier to become a druggy than a doctor....It is also easier to harass than hold back your argues....And believe me good things like vegetables rarely are charming :p:

Well the logic is simple, that no piece of cloth guarantees any protection, au contraire, a free and democratic state grants rights and also imposes responsibilities. In such circumstances you can behave honourably with and without a veil or head-scarf.
Ever wondered the most logical reason as to why a head scarf was introduced in the first place???
When viewed rationally, function of head scarf is protection against sand, which is a logical part of dressing up in Middle East, but in other parts of the world it is obsolete.

No amount of caution will make your child microbial free no amount of worrying will guarantee an accident free life...Yet everyone alive makes sure they dont go eating with their hands dirty nor drive like a maniac coz they may or may not die after all....no guarantee right?

The very fact we take precaution in everything we do except taking care of ourselves is absurd!

As for the government it cant hold your hands and tell you common sense that a half naked girl is more likely to get surrounded by men than one who is fully covered...I am not talking about guarantee but likelihood...and OUR responsibility on ourselves!

No govt wants to bear a horny and over excited population.....

Yet, I managed to show you headscarf over a few centuries in my previous post (none of which had anything to do with Islam or the middle east)...Live in denial all you want but not everything is as simple as I WANT IT SO...Because of this attitude we have weird things happening no idea how long it will make a man logically understand that some restrain is for their own good!

Don't mind but do you mean women's hairstyles are an erotic stimulus???
Seriously???
When you walk down a street then no one turns to look at you because of your hair. Only if you dress provocatively or in a particular way, and behave accordingly, do you attract some attention.
And do you think countries where girls wear scarf and abayas have been able to curb violation of women???

Oh dear....Go around randomly and observe what men look at when they check out a girl....

Hijab doesnt only mean headscarf.....All those who do cover their head (at least in the pix I posted in previous post) wasnt only about hair....I used headscarf as that is the topic of the thread...And well GIRLS do spend an extraordinary amount of time on dead cells (yup thats what hair is) ...They do too look great and 90% would say so guys would like it (not talking about aunties who still wanna be fashionable...

So women who get raped and harassed are to be blamed? :coffee:

And do you think countries where girls wear scarf and abayas have been able to curb violation of women???
Do you think people act like animals right out front? How is their rape/harassment stats? No I am not talking about rich influential people because lets face it even democracy hasnt done miracles against the influential lot....

And I am not talking about women "violation" but to do our part to protect ourselves...at least women who do feel the need to behave as women (even till date, on a prom, gala or whatever function, a full length gown is always supersedes over a slutty dress from the everyday model) and not cave women! :enjoy:

Hijab for a day: Non-Muslim women try the headscarf - BBC News

Women line up to ‘walk a mile’ in a hijab

Fighting Prejudice: Claudia Wong waits as one of the World Hijab Day volunteers pins her scarf in place. (Photo by Zehra Tajouri/SAIT Polytechnic)
The first-ever World Hijab Day was held at the University of Calgary Jan. 31.

More than 100 donated scarves covered the three-table station in the MacEwan Student Centre when the event began, and by the end of the day, only six remained.

The display boasted a large variety of fabrics and colours. Students and members of the general public were welcomed to try on the well-known and sometimes controversial Muslim head cover, also known as the hijab.

“It’s like walking a mile in our shoes,” said World Hijab Day volunteer Sondous Said.

The fifth year English major said the feedback throughout the day was really positive.

“The University of Calgary doesn’t have a reputation for being racist or anything, but you get a few comments here and there,” Said explained.

“A couple years ago, a guy called me a terrorist as I was walking out of this building, and his friends laughed.

“I think it was a joke, but you never know what people are really thinking, so this project is a good way to get that discussion going.”

World Hijab Day, typically celebrated on Feb. 1 worldwide, was hosted on for the first time ever in Calgary on the Friday by, by the University of Calgary’s Muslim Students Association, to reach a larger campus audience.

Non-hijab wearing women were free to ask questions as they got a scarf tied to their heads, and the volunteers, who all wear hijabs, answered them.

Hala Husien, a third-year biology student and event volunteer, said the display will most likely become an annual project.

“People have been saying it’s really great, and they want to see it every year.”

Husien, who was busy tying scarves throughout the day, said it’s not necessarily racism that ignites this project.

“People are just kind of ignorant.

“They paint us with the same brush – they don’t expect individuality.

“This project is supposed to be an eye-opener, because once these girls put the scarf on, they realize that we’re just like them. The only difference is we wear the scarf all the time, and they’re only wearing it for the day.”

However, not all of the women were up to take on the challenge for the full day.

Most of the women getting their scarves tied said they would keep it on for a few hours, but would probably take it off before they went home.

Claudia Wong, however, who had a light pink scarf wrapped around her face, said she definitely planned to wear the hijab for the full day.

“I was a bit hesitant at first, but then I realized that people wear this every day of the year, so I can do it for 24 hours at the very least.

“I want to stop the prejudice we have, and this is how it starts.”

Alycia Lauzon, the Service-Learning Co-ordinator at the Centre for Community-Engaged Learning, said she decided to try on the hijab to get a different experience.

As one of the volunteers wrapped a thin fuchsia scarf around her face, Lauzon said it didn’t feel uncomfortable at all and thought it looked pretty.

As different women walked away with their hijabs on, several taking pictures of themselves and their friends to post on Instagram, many had their own reasons for participating in the event.

Ashley Abarca-Chamarro said she planned to wear the hijab to her sister’s birthday, and was on her way to the mall.

“I told her that I was doing it and she said, ‘This is exactly the kind of thing you would do.’

“I thought it would be fun to see what it’s like.”

As she got the finishing touch on her hijab, she said it “doesn’t feel weird,” and got a picture taken with one of the volunteers.

“This project is supposed to be an eye-opener, because once these girls put the scarf on they realize that we’re just like them. The only difference is we wear the scarf all the time, and they’re only wearing it for the day.” – Hala Husien

According to the volunteers, none of the women trying the hijab on had any reservations about doing it, but some were more hesitant than others.

“It feels a lot warmer than I expected,” laughed Prakriti Sharma, as a bright pink hijab was wrapped around her head.

“I don’t think my ears have ever been this warm.”

Sharma added that she probably wouldn’t wear the hijab for the full day, but recommended that everyone try it.

“This is one of those things that you have to try at least once, you know?

“Just to see.”

Lol
Does a liberal thinking woman who choses not wear head scarf or a long dress automatically qualify for the post of "one who wears slutty dresses(in your lexicon)"??
And who asked woman to wear cave-women dresses here??
I support dressing modestly and according to the occasion. (Wearing crocs and jeans to a marriage party would look as galoot-ish as wearing a fully covered dress at the pool).
But I've yet to understand why do ppl have to wear gloves, and abayas longer than themselves and at the same time apply heavy mascara and eye shadow to their eyes, the only part of the body which is visible from the abayas??
Other than grabbing eyeballs those heavy eyeshadows, mascara, artificial eyelashes , and tight fitting abayas with long slits serve no other purpose. And who doesn't know of Arab women's penchant for beauty products??

And no, those hairstyles which you've posted are definitely not provocative. I mean just how??? how do you rate 'em provocative??
Those are smart hairstyles which most of the women try these days (like hair straightening and curling). Every other girl carries a hairstyler nowadays, a few regressive women might not be using it though.
In fact all you can change about yourself is your hairstyle. All the other features on your body 're permanent. So what's wrong if someone wants to change their hairstyle???
Now this is what a Muslim woman has to say about wearing a head scarf, and why she doesn't wear one.
Why I as a Muslim Woman Don't Wear a Headscarf

So if you open your hair, men will go nuts? Maybe Muslim men have less self control, that is certainly being implied.

By your logic, that hijab is perfect also implies that women can be protected by building walls. So please consider keeping them in jails, including yourself and keep men out by electric fence. No man will even come close. Pure chastity guaranteed.

On a serious note, if you wish to wear it, do so. But if you consider those not wearing it slutty, then you should be locked up or deported to some Islamic hellhole. For good.

Ram Sene is a fringe group who is condemmed by all. But you conveniently sidestepped my questions about Muslims who see only two extremes Burqa and Bikini. Try to answer without bringing fringe Hindu groups in the answer
The world should be partitioned and people with such thoughts should be locked up in one. Then all interaction with the outside world must be removed. Problem solved.

Aren’t all the different religions Christianity, Islam, Hindusim, Buddhism, about experiencing the same God, yet explaining it in different ways? Thus can’t they all be true, but with each giving a different emphasis??
I may be a hindu but I respect your religion, and its teachings as much i respect mine. I get raucous only against those who use religion to manipulate and curb women's liberty.

sorry Hinduism is nothing similar to Islam ..
now yeah everyone will claim that their religion is true , but who are you to argue on behalf of millions of Muslim women who choose to cover their head ? because their religion ask them to .. there is a problem is running out in the open wearing Bikini , but there is no harm in running out wearing a Scarf ... you people cant even think about what Islam has to offer to its people .. you will argue , and till the world end you will remain arguing but thing is that we cant change things according to our likes and Dislikes ..

Everyone respect other religion only some Extremist hate other , and every religion has its quota of haters , so what is your point ?
If a Muslim women wants to be bad, no Scarf or Burqa can stop her , and if a girl wants to be good , she can have a good character , by wearing Jeans and Shirt ... Covering head is just a symbol of Modesty .. Allah has balance things between women and men , If Women are urged to wear modest clothes , so men's are urged to not look up to Women again when you interact with them ..
but people like you often , what i notice try to judge Islam with your limited knowledge , oh Islam is suppressing the Women blah blah , you have no Idea what " Darjaa " Islam has given to a Mother , Marium , Mother of Jesus Pbuh , Bibi Amna , RA , mother of Prophet Muhammad Pbuh .. go and ask any educated Scholar who these women were and what is their position in Islam ..

its human nature that we always mis use the freedom , asking women's liberty does not mean leaving one's culture and adopts others , look at the many Women's in Pakistan , they have adopted Indian way of Dressing , and now they dont have their own Cultural identities .. but if you go in urban Areas, in Villages , you will still see a Glitch of Cultural norms ..

these days i am Talking with a American Girl ( 16 years old ) who choose to accept Islam , against the will of her Family , and she wear head scarf .. she wear's it when she is alone ,because she dont want her parents to force her to change her faith ... she choose to wear it no body forces her .. so before coming on a judgement that all or majority girls are forced or suppressed to cover head is wrong ... I am student of Masters and in My university i see all kind of girl , from wearing Jeans and Shirt to burqa , niqaab , head scarf etc ... that is called diverse society , those who wear head scarf , choose to wear it .. they have knowledge about Islam ..more than any who come here to Argue on something which he/she has no knowledge

Oh I am. Ok, I was. :P Point is we all are not potential rapists.

Yes we all are not potential rapists, but we males have a tendency of falling in love every now and then :partay:

You must have heard the joke "A person loves his own children and admires wife of his neighbor" :D

Its not about invitation to rape or intentions to rape, its all about providing means to mitigate the natural urges that are misdirected. Humans are not strong when it comes to urges you know. And the other element it has to it is to afford an opportunity of respect for a species that gets objectified as all flesh and no soul.

I find these examples of objectifying. The implication is that if they don't cover if these kids will titillate men.

I agree, they look cute. But they look better without tents or purdahs.

So now you are mixing up the way one is groomed and brought up with oppression or objectifying?

I find tv ads of pampers and diapers, baby lotions etc very offensive and intrusive, it does not mean if a child cannot speak he / she does not care about his privacy and modesty.

If women 're forced to wear head scarf then men should go bald.
Come to think of it, hairs as erotic stimulus?? Gosh!
