I understand that is his opinion....but we always get great pleasure and knowledge from debating the opinions of well known people. Limiting to this particular quote what I see him say is:
Islam is an attitude of freedom
Islam may even be a act of defiance to universe
These too IMO are incompatible. Freedom is by nature harmonious to the universe. That is why the bird or you sing a happy tune when you're happy. You don't sing a happy song when taking up cudgels against some injustice.
Anyway....I'm of to my glass of limoncello now so perhaps I should be thinking Umar Khayyam and not Allam Iqbal!
