What's new

Here's a text my colleague received re: NYC's poor air quality. People still think of Chinese megacities as having poor air quality.

. .
In general Americans cities will still have better air quality simply because of lesser population density. We shouldn't be cherry picking data with a historic wildfire season burning in Canada.

.
I suggest your colleague look at the average air quality of American cities and compare to Chinese cities rather than looking at one off days impacted by ravaging Canadian wildfires.
We can just update this thread weekly for the next year or so...so they don't get forgetful.

Let's see how long a US/Canadian city stays in the top 10 compared to those 3 in China (Wuhan, Shanghai, Chengdu)

well less than 1 day. That didn't take long for the smoke to clear and those North American cities to fall below the levels of Chinese ones.

They are living in a dreamland if they think air pollution in Chinese cities is not high.

Even with that crazy thick orange haze NYC was just slightly above the normal pollution levels of some Chinese cities.

Look which city is back to #5 and not much lower (134) than the completely insane yellow haze New York City score (145) from last week.

yeah...4 out of the top 10...I supposed that's better than years ago when maybe it was closer to 10 out of the top 10.

Jakarta air quality is bad, really really bad.

It feels like it's going to rain, but it turns out its pollution.

Every time I went out of Jakarta, the air suddenly felt fresh.

There are too many cars on the street, not to mention the traffic jam.

Jakarta is designed to be car centric, like USA cities and many other modern cities, not to mention tropical weather as well, it's hot and the sunlight is strong, having a car is a must for people who live in Jakarta.
