helecopter for indian poilce and other forces

Thank you, also what about training and Special Service units. Is India working on or has such units it wide use? I would be very interested to know if India participated in the US Dept of State ATAP to improve its Anti Terror capabilities?

Also training wise, is training regional or at a national level. For example in Pakistan each province has a dedicated training academy and the special training academy is in Lahore for Elite Police and COBRA and ATA ( Counter Terrorist and Crisis Response Courses) are conducted at PTC Sihalla near Rawalpdini.

Many thanks.

Every state has special armed units to what we call commando units varying number and capabilities .

Police forces of Punjab,N/E, Kashmir and states which fights Naxals like Andhra pradesh,Chattisgarh,Odisha etc have bigger dedicated special service units. They are ofcourse well armed .Maharastr police created its own anti terrorist commando unit after 26/11.

In general for all anti terrorism , anti hijack ops we have dedicated NSG(national security guards) which is a quasi military unit under HM whose personnels are drawn from both army and paramilitaries is comparable to the best in the world. Its deployed 5 metro cities around the country now .Before 26/11 ,they had only one base in New Delhi and their operation in Mumbai got delayed due to the travle time.NSG also looks after the security of central ministers and Chief ministers of the state.

Other Para military units like BSF , ITBP etc too have their specialized commando units.

SPG (speical protection group) is anther specialized unit solely created for security of the prime minster and ex prime ministers of india after killing of Indira Gandhi .

india is able to modernize the police only by modern weapon and equipment but we can't give helicopter to police bcoz it just a wastage to money, our officers and leaders use it for personal needs.

TN has a police budget of 100 crores...thats measly compared to the $200 billion GDP of the state.

OT:Dude the budget of TN is definitely not 200 bils..it might be around 80 or 90 bils..

(Source edavadu irukka.?)

Presently, all the states and UTs have a cumulative budget allocation of Rs 44,354 crore for Police Department and this is 4.3 per cent of the total budget outlay.

Of this around 80 per cent goes for salary and a meager 20 per cent goes for training, acquisition of sophisticated weapons and police modernisation programme.

So basically this means to say that police relies heavily on Armed forces in case of any critical situation like borrowing a chopper and stuff.

As u said about 20% amount that went for maintenance, paying rent, fuel bill, stationary, uniform etc. etc.

Acquisition of sophisticated weapons and police modernization programme are the last thing as they don't have enough budget allocation.

All over India there are hundred thousands of vacancies in police force they even don't have enough men for policing forget about weapons and modernization.

But, after P. chidambaram as home minister things are improving.

Every state has its own rule/law, recruitment and training. They have dedicated branches trained to deal in certain areas. For example:

Narcotics cell: To tackle narcotics and their operatives.

Cyber Cell: Which looks after cyber cases.

ATS: Anti Terrorist Squad.

Crime Branch: To tackle crimes and criminals.

EOW: Economic offense wing, to look after crime in financial and economic area.

Apart from it there are many other branches like Anti-Corruption Cell, Vigilance Cell, Traffic, Legal Cell, Crime against Women cell, Detection Unit, Anti Robbery Squad, Anti-Extortion Cell, Quick Response Team, Special Branch etc. etc.

Apart from is we have paramilitary forces for different situations like:

RAF: Rapid Action Force dedicated for riots.
COBRA: For Maoist.

etc. etc.

And apart from training in state units they are trained as per requirement by different local organizations and trainers from different part of the world.

It is nationwide practice but mostly limited to Urban areas.

Lol i love thoes old jeeps and ww2 rifles reminds me of the GOOD old bollywood films

What helis for our police force:hitwall:

You know FRIEND for maoists operation itself we have heli shortage

May i ask out of curiosity, what is the annual budget of a provincial police like say "Punjab Police" in India, with regards to equipment, how often to they procure equipment to replace "wear and tear" and with regards to training are they trained regionally or at a national academy.

With regards to aerial support, do you have the ability to call in air support from the military or does any other civilian organisation have access to helicopters that the police may commender for Anti Terrorist operations?

I am also interested to know about Indian police ESUs, do indian police have any emergency support units or special service teams, if so are these only operational within urban areas or widely operational.

Many thanks in advance.

As per my knowledge Mumbai police don't have facility or direct link of any type to get immediate aerial support. For emergency support from army or from some other units, they need to go via lots of layers of communication which takes too much time..
Most of budget goes to salary and welfare ..

Forget about metros. Our first aim should be to provide the best transportation, training and equipments to the people fighting naxals.

I think metros can still do without helicopters but there is a severe shortage of helicopters for naxal operations.

Those Patrol cars were gifted to the chennai police force by Hyundai. Everything in the car including the comm kits, sirens and the cams were installed by hyundai free of cost.
TN gov. hasn't spent a single penny on those cars and for u r information chennai police still operate the lousy jeeps :frown:

things like these need to be replaced mostly in rural areas
