HEC to offer 10,000 PhD scholarships for USA

I did not go to IIT's, more like I couldn't, It remains one of the most difficult college to get into. But i did get decent enough education that I won't refer to you or anyone else's nationality in a derogatory fashion, I , but please do indulge me with some references, which puts any of your colleges close to IIT.
In any case MIT being rated at Rank 1
and IIT Bombay at Rank 32
and NUST at Rank 340th

IIT Bombay trails MIT by 31 Places, and NUST trails the same IIT Bombay by a whopping 308 places.

So now please do explain the two statments in relative terms
IIT Bombay (32) in league of MIT (1)
NUST (340) in League of IIT (32)

Do you see who lacks sense here?

The way Indians portray IIT, it seems like it is the top university in the universe.

Not saying that IIT is a bad or cheap university, but I don't see it even in the top 50.

Only in your dreams do IIT faculties take part in such weird scientific conference you're talking about. On a serious note, do you've problem in understanding something as basic as numbers?
Even if let's say some random professor from some random college or lab made weird statement based on his religious believes, do you think it's fair to relate quality of IITs/IISc with such an incident, especially when IITs themselves have nothing to do with such a statement or line of thought.
Look dude, who so ever you are, you are free to twist statements or erroneously extrapolate things to suit your agenda, but kindly don't let your hyper religious and nationalist tendencies cloud your judgemental capabilities
My dear chap before you judge my judgmental capabilities, you need to take a serious look at the "Indian Science Congress" and question their judgement for organising such astonishingly mind boggling nonsense, it actually shows the level of scientific culture in your nation and lack of regard for the scientific method, for heaven sake man look how far China is ahead of you and even Iran a nation a fraction of your size absolutely trounces you on scientific and mathematics Olympiads, so mush for the genius of IIT students , I can see that you are so dogmatic in your beliefs that IIT are the "creme dela creme" of scientific educational institutes (despite the fact they are not even globally ranked anywhere near the top institutes) that you are beyond reasoning with:agree:.Kudos Mishra sahib

On the contrary my argument here is that instead of going guns blazing on Afghans for wanting to have relations with the US or India or anyone else, and taunting us " when the US leaves, when India leaves blah blah" so as you see we have practical consideration in wanting to be chummy and good relations with anyone and everyone.

PS : the US didn't bomb us to stone age but on the contrary invested over a hundred billion. On the contrary your proxies are currently blowing bridges, killing school teachers and are attempting to bring us back to the stone age.

It is the same US investment which has provided us enough education and experience to compete with you and anyone else in the region and the world.

Can you tell me how many of your Talis that are graduating like monkeys can do the same?

You have been brainwashed to the stage of compounded ignorance mate. Not denying our part in Afg's current mess but things have been blown and exaggerated way out of proportion.
And for all practical reasons,we are seeing that Afghans are not going to see things as they should be the easy way.

IIT is not ranked 32 in the world, IIT Bombay Website is not giving correct statistics.

By faculty of Engineering it is not placed in the top 50, and overall not even top 100. You are free to verify it here:

My reference was absolutely correct, it was ranked 32 according to the listed references, I did not claim it to be QS ranking
and as the scope of discussion posted by the member was

that IIT and NUST etc are in the same league.

here is a QS snapshot for the both.

IIT B

NUST

Feel free to dispute.

According to Indian references (the university website itself) provided by you, IIT is 32 or whatever. The information provided on that reference is wrong! :-)

This is the reason, why nobody takes Indian references seriously. They tend to exaggerate everything in their favor.

The real ranking according to QS tell us that IIT is not in the top 50 faculty wise (Engineering etc).

And overall not even in the top 150 !! Feel free to check the latest rankings here:

Top universities in Pakistan: Not even in top "500" btw As far as the claim Pakistani Universities being in the same league as IIT's.

What point are you trying to make? That because according to IIT website, they are ranked 36th in the world (self praise), therefore you also consider it 36th in the world? Even though QS does not put it in the top 50 in Engineering and in top 150 overall?

Is this what you trying to tell us?

PS. Feel free to discuss rankings of Pakistani universities in a separate thread. I don't think they are ranked very high.

As I said READ the reference it clearly say as per rankings in 2008. Is your comprehension that poor? AND this thread is not about Indian ranking either, it's your compatriot that made the claim that Pakistani Universities that are ranked about 250 spots below IIT's are in the same league....

Ok fine, some 8 years ago, according to IIT's own website they were ranked 36 in Engineering faculty and now they are not even in the top 50 in engineering and top 150 overall, according to the latest ranking, if anything the standard is degrading.

There is nothing to brag about and with that I rest my case with you and your universities ranking.

Back to the main topic, I think 10,000 PhD scholarships is a good thing for Pakistani youth. That will raise the much needed education standard in the country.

I as an electrical engineer used to consult research paper and study material for different subjects from various universities around the world . And even my final year project I take help and consultion and even chatted with fellow students from IIT Bombay. And i can tell you one thing Engineer knowledge wheather it is a student of Nust or IIT it is almost the same . We study the same shitty subjects. And given the same pressure by teachers. And we all think of committing suicide atleast once during engineering studies. So rank of the universities usually don't matter. If you really really wanna compare an Engineering institution. Then best way to do it is comparing the projects . The rankings of universities are usually given and awarded based on number of facilities and environment provided by universities for research, academic and professional manner purposes.

And i know you won't believe me but during my time as a student . The students from IIT used to ask us also for support and advice for few problem in their assignments or projects. There used to be dedicated yahoo groups where engineering students used to chat, consult and solve shitty and difficult assignment, projects and tasks

HEC to offer 10,000 PhD scholarships for US

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will send 10,000 scholars to the United States for PhD studies in next 10 years.

These scholars will get admissions in agriculture and food security, medical and allied health sciences, energy, water, climate change, advanced digital technology among others.

This was stated by Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal while explaining the Pakistan-US Knowledge Corridor during a video conference session with vice chancellors from across the country on Wednesday.

The HEC chairman, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and executive director Dr. Arshad Ali, were also present on the occasion.

The Pakistan-US Corridor was conceptualized in June 2015 as a result of US-Pakistan Education, Science and Technology working group under the bilateral strategic dialogue.

The minister said that 10,000 PhDs educated in the best US would give spectacular results. “The government is committed to increasing access to higher education and for that purpose sub-campuses and virtual campuses are being established at district level so as to enable aspiring students to gain higher education at their doorstep.”

Dr Mukhtar Ahmed gave an overview of HEC’s efforts for developing human resource and providing state-of-the-art facilities to the higher education institutions. Speaking to Dawn the HEC chairman said all vice chancellors had been directed to prepare students for admissions in top universities of the US.

“Under Pakistan-US Corridor, the students will be prepared in such a manner that they can get scholarships for US universities. In case, the students cannot receive scholarship but succeeded in getting themselves enrolled with top universities of the US, the HEC will bear their expenses,” the chairman said and added every year, at least 1,000 students will be sent to the US for pursing higher education.
I hope no political edge over scholarship scheme

On contrary , I completely agree with you.

I stopped reading after this ludicrous comment.Kudos

Actually it is tougher for any foreign students to get into MIT is because you are competing with the best in the world.
With IIT's it is largely a local affair. Also the MIT undergraduate program is mostly catered to local students and very few international students are admitted.

Even though the Indian govt. announced recently that they will open up IITs for foreign students but they will have separate quota and will not be competing with locals. So, the best comparison would be how locals fare with MIT admissions. An american citizen will find it relatively easier to get admission in MIT in comparison to an Indian student getting admission into IIT.
