Dhaka, Aug 18 (bdnews24.com) -- The High Court has asked the government why steps should not be taken against the person, who in his Facebook status wished the death of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The bench of justices A H M Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Gobinda Chandra Tagore on Thursday asked why a criminal case should not be filed against Jahangirnagar University (JU) part-time teacher Muhammad Ruhul Amin Khandakar.
The court passed the order on its own motion following news reports.
The home, foreign and education secretaries, inspector general of police and the director general of National Security Intelligence were asked to reply to the rule within two weeks.
JU Institute of Information Technology teacher Ruhul was appointed temporarily in 2008, and he is availing education leave in Australia since 2009.
He wrote in his Facebook account status 'Wishing PM's death' after the death of five people including filmmaker Tareque Masud and Ashfaque (Mishuk) Munier in a road accident on Saturday.
JU unit Chattra League staged demonstrations seeking the teacher's suspension on Wednesday and Thursday.
