Have you ever written a book? Or started to write?

.
What are some good tips for beginner writers? Are you currently writing a book? :)
Yes, I am. It's labour of love and will take years at the rate I am going. Every writer has their style like a signature. However good book must be interesting and well referanced. A reader ought to walk away educated on a subject and be entertained as well. If you can open their mind and broaden their horizon it's all the better.

beginner writers?
While undoubtly natural talent is generic to a good writer but I think big part is shear effort. You must work hard on your thinking and language. Words are your toys to be played with either to educate, force people to think, entertain and this skill is slowly built up over time.

From what I have seen you have some ability in writing and certainly have a inquisitive mind that can make sense of complex issues. So work at it and let us know when you get your book published.

I'm ready to start writing but what if no one wants to publish my book? It may sound arrogant but I'm not writing for myself exclusively. People should read my book and argue with me. The topic of my book is very political and I'm also afraid about some negative repercussions.

That is the risk you got to take. Who dares might win but who does not dare will never win.

Just to share an example, it took Tolkien 17 years to finish LOTR (Lord of the Rings)! He wrote his masterpiece "in between" work and family chores. Another great example, and my favorite one, is of JK Rowling, the charming writer who can throw spells on her readers from the moment they open the first chapter of her book. She was actually a single mother, bankrupt and on the verge of a mental breakdown. At possibly the worst moment of her life, she began to write Harry Potter series which eventually became the world's best selling books with over 400 million copies sold world wide.

After reading Harry Potter, it dawned on me how much thought and effort goes into "imagination". Of-course, words and prose are very nice to have, but that's not the reason why readers fall in love with a story. A good story should have interesting plots, mysteries, adventure, humor, pain and excitement.

One more point, writers like Tolkien and Lewis read their stories to each other (the inkling club) where they challenged each other's creativity, not their language, and that included books like LOTR and Chronicles of Narnia! Lewis didn't think much about the Elves, while Tolkien was not too pleased about Lewis bringing Christianity directly. What I am trying to say is, lets instead ask the question, "can you think of a good story?"

I have written 2 books. One on Pakhtunkhwa on the the war on terror (hence my not only love but part affiliation with Pashtuns) with a focus on the armies fight and pashtuns in it (It covers rah e haq and black thunderstorm operations against Taliban scum). The second an epic fantasy completely fictional. I know. Vast difference between the 2 and very different. For the first one (on Pakhtunkhwa) I would advise you to have knowledge on current affairs and on the war on terror or whatever your reality based topic is. This applies to any reality based book you write.

The second book (epic fantasy) needs a vivid imagination and world building skills. It all depends on what type of book you want to write. Share more info and I can share tips that helped me.

Also the biggest part is publishing your book. Unless you are extremely famous and have contacts (Neither of which I have left) it is very difficult to get published. You can go with a literary agent if you want to make it big but the literary agents usually need a shotgun query letter and a synopsis. I still haven't gotten the hang of it. It was one of my dreams to be read by thousands of people but its not an easy path. Hence my books are unpublished and as some have reminded me recently I am a failure.
