Let us face it, in personal charisma & imposing appearance, Gen Kiyani was no match to either Musharraf or to Raheel Shareef. He was however well liked and respected during his first term of office. But 3 things spoiled his image.

No matter which way you look at it, Abbottabad raid by the US and the fact the OBL was found in a garrison town in Pakistan was an insult to Pakistan, to Pakistan army as an institution and particularly to the COAS. Before becoming COAS, Gen Kiyani was head of the ISI. Assuming that he was in fact unaware of OBL presence right under his nose, indicates his lack of competency as Pakistan’s intelligence chief.

Secondly, he should have retired after his first term, accepting extension of his term of office is indicative of a greedy streak, thus a weakness of character.

Finally, revelation by Maj Gen Athar Abbas that Gen Kiyani feared backlash from the religious lobby and hence he procrastinated about taking the military action against Taliban, makes Gen Kiyani out to be an indecisive general who lacked the guts to tackle the Taliban menace.

Any one of the Corps Commanders / 3- star generals from the fighting branches, is supposed to be capable of heading the Army; promotion to the COAS position being the discretionary choice by the Prime Minister from the list of recommended names. IMO Gen Kiyani was just a run of the mill competent general who got the job because Musharraf liked him.

He got the job cuz Musharraf didnt think he would change sides and take sides with the US state dept. Comeon, noone can deny that Musharraf's ouster was actually planned in the US state dept since he wasnt doing what Zardari/haqqani/kayani were willing to do.

No.5 - Allowing PMLn to get away with Dhandli in 2013 election.

Someone needs to ask haroon ur Rasheed two questions, if he knows the answer. 1) who was the third voice in famous or infamous "35 puncture " audio. 2) who called SM Zafar right before he was about to challenge Zardari nomination papers for presidency and told him not to do so?

This country has been put to dogs.

Worse Army Chief we ever had .. Salala , OBL drama and memo gate .
He had a pretty decent run in his first term however he will be remembered for his second term which was coupled with indecisiveness and bad luck ie OBL operation, irrespective of who was at the helm, the yanks were going to come in PERIOD.Kudos

He was the one who cleared most of tribal areas. It's only other 20 % area which both Raheel and now Bajwa are trying to clear. He brought back the Morale of Army which was at its lowest in time of dumbo Musharraf. He was not perfect but one of the best Chiefs we had. As for Salala if their would have been any other chief still these blunders would have happened.

Achievements are easy to forget, i agree that my opinion about him is over shadowed by these three incidents i posted in my first post .. but i agree he will be remembered for his second term, i'd say Raheel was indeed more intelligent than Kiyani , he didn't fall for that same trap .

He Didn't clear anything , Army Jawans did .. Army operation was necessary cause Taliban were in SWAT MALAKAND , back in Mushy era they never were that close to major Pakistani cities . IF Kiyani did not do it someone else would , so i wont credit him for doing his only JOB ..
