Pakistan will never ever be a true regional power until or unless it has a Navy which is respected by it's neighbours. History can attest to the fact that it's the Navy of a nation which can truly project it's power and aid in expansion.

Unfortunately Navy is the most neglected branch of our armed forces and this will more than likely not bode well for our nation.

Pakistan is making great progress with navy my friend. We have a new ship yard which is about to come online soon at Gwadar and many ships are in pipeline in Pakistan China turkey and Poland. The way we have made naval purchases I think soon every thing else will be neglected.

To be honest I haven't followed any recent news pertaining to PN and it's procurement, but what I'll say is that our fleet is next to nothing. Basically, we have a better Navy than may be some African nations. It's the mindset which needs to change I suppose, PN needs to be looked at with a completely different set of mind.

Where's our airwing? Where are our submarines? What kind of fleets do we have? Where does our amphibious capabilities stand vis-a-vis our opponents? What's the status of our marines? When was the last time our navy conducted a serious operation? Does our navy have an overseas base?

Indeed. Navy has been neglected and should be developed in so far as it can give us a defensive edge against the Indian navy in terms of area denial. But besides that I don't really see a reason why we would need a large navy for power projection purposes considering that most of our borders are on land and we are still a regional power.

We should also focus on our foreign policy especially towards aligning with Russian, Iran and trade relations with the CAR's and Turkey which we are already doing and this is good news but our relations with Iran need to be brought to the pre-1979 levels once again, that would be nice

It is the navy and air force of a country that make superpowers and the bright minds behind them offcourse.

We need better aircraft and LPD/LHD's like Turkey was planning for its F-35s. It might be an unconventional idea but a very bright one. Maybe we can deploy some T-129s from them as well.

Yes, I hope so too. We have been hearing about the submarines for the past 3 years, hopefully something finally materialises soon In sha Allah.

We have small sea area but our enemy have very large sea area with very large Naval force. Large Naval force with single purpose.

Imagin what will happen when all Indian Navy attack Karachi. Can our Navy ( which is only for defence) defend it? I don't think so unless our enemy have something to fear and some force to defend from.

If by force projection it is meant offensive capabilities to take the war to the enemy then yes I agree, and due to our limited budget we are going for submarines armed with missiles since aircraft carriers are beyond our budget.

Carrier killer ballistic missiles are very cheap alternatives and effective defensive measures against expensive enemy vessels.

No offence to anyone but I prefer Chinese Helicopters over T-129 simply because of source code and architecture.
AC is such a good idea because of our coast line. I would prefer AIP's.
