HAL, Rolls-Royce ink pact for manufacturing Adour engine parts for global markets

Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Tuesday said it has signed an agreement with Rolls-Royce for Make-in-India Adour engine parts to support the latter’s international defence customer base.

A HAL statement issued here read: “Through this partnership, Rolls-Royce aims to strengthen the ecosystem for Adour engines in India by building on HAL’s existing capabilities for manufacturing and supporting the engines for Indian customers over several decades.”

HAL CMD R Madhavan, said: “With more than 30 years of experience of supporting repair and maintenance services for Adour engines in India, HAL has the capability and capacity to support a large defence customer base. This is the first order for supply of spares for the Adour global supply chain. We plan to be a key player in the supply chain and expect more orders to follow.”
Pointing out that the PSU looks forward to working with Rolls-Royce to serve the global market for supply of spares and MRO of Adour engines, he said that the agreement will create avenues for both firms to expand the defence sourcing footprint in India.”


Kishore Jayaraman, president, Rolls-Royce India and South Asia, said: “This is a significant step towards strengthening the defence manufacturing ecosystem in India, and to help catapult India’s vision for the defence sector to ‘make in India’ for the world.”


Alex Zino, executive vice-president–business development and future programmes (Defence), Rolls-Royce, said the firm believes that HAL’s expertise in manufacturing and supporting Adour engines will pave the way for several of our customers to successfully operate the Adour engines for many more years.
 
While great for the sustainment of Indian Jaguars & Hawks- where else does a “global market” apply?
The only other major application for the Adour was the Japanese T-2 and those they do at Mitsubishi Industries anyway.

So perhaps RR is offloading the Hawk parts support here as it moves it production line to next gen engines.

Outside of India the Jaguar is a dead platform. The Hawk is operated by dozen air forces

All depends upon the variant - some are closer to the core adour while others use different power plants.

However when India puts a date on something add 5-10 years to it so the parts make keep the Jaguars flying for a while.
 
Which global market does the report mean? The Adour engine is only used in Jaguar. How many countries are operating Jaguar now?

For a big industrial juggernaut like Pakistan this piece of news maybe trash worthy but for India this is very different. This engine is also used in the BAE HAWK and its variants. With several of these still in use across the world, it is indeed a big opportunity for HAL.

India has serviced these engines on the Jaguar for years now. They obviously have set a standard that is high enough for Rolls Royce to approve parts manufacture by HAL. I see that as a massive win for HAL.

Can't see the wood for the trees can you? They now have HAL making spare parts for a 50 year old engine rather then a modern one....

I am sure you see everything as a massive win for India but I doubt most of those countries will rely upon Indian spare parts. For example
You would need to remove
US
Canada
UK
Saudi (they will always buy from UK)
Finland
Australia
Switzerland

And those are just for starters.
