HAL eyes first flight of Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) in December

Racing against time and against its own track record State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is confident that first flight of Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) will be held in December and LUH will clear IOC Certification by end of 2016 .

Sources close to idrw.org have confirmed us that LUH Program is on schedule and recently successfully completed its first rounds of Ground runs and Integration of Avionics and other key systems are already in place on the first bird.

HAL right now has orders for 187 LUH from Indian Army but to grab bigger pie of orders LUH Program has to stay on schedule or else Russian developed Kamov-226 helicopters which will be assembled in India will take bigger orders .

Indian Armed forces have combined orders of more than 400 helicopters which Defence Analyst believe will further open up scope for 200 more orders which are currently been contested by LUH and Kamov-226.

While Russians have still not selected Indian Industrial partner who will be assembling Kamov-226 in India, Russian Kamov-226 helicopter is established and Certified Product and its LUH which needs to complete its certification and clear flight trials before it can be considered for larger orders warned Defence Analyst Ranesh Rajan.

LUH and Kamov-226 will be powered by engines supplied by Turbomeca of France with whom India has long-standing cooperation and has used their engines in Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) ‘Dhruv’ and similar engine will also be used for Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) which currently is under flight trials and will soon begin Weapons trials .
