Build of New Gwadar International Airport

Gwadar in Pakistan makes significant leaps and bounds in terms of commitments to infrastructure and its economy. Imran Khan is attending the Gwadar Expo this year to a ground breaking ceremony for what would be Pakistan's largest airport in Gwadar.

LONDON, ENGLAND, March 28, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- News that many Gwadar investors have been waiting for is expected to be confirmed on Friday March 29th. Back in February, sources indicated that work on Gwadar International Airport would begin in April and while we've been waiting for precise updates ever since, it seems that the wait is over. This news reinforces just how Gwadar in Pakistan is making significant leaps and bounds in terms of commitments to infrastructure and its economy. It's a powerful message to all potential investors in Pakistan.

Reports show that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to kick off the build of the new airport this Friday and the timing is perfect in many respects. The ground breaking ceremony will be held at the upcoming Gwadar Expo 2019.

Gwadar Expo is here

Balochistan officials and the wider Pakistan government seem keen to build up every good news story surrounding Gwadar and why not? Development of this strategic port city is continuing at a rapid rate and the construction of the region's airport is a big piece of the overall jigsaw.

The latest announcement coincides with the start of Gwadar Expo 2019: Tagged as the key to global opportunities, the exhibition runs for two days from Thursday 28th March. This exciting event provides an important platform where investors, buyers and traders from all over the world can meet.

Sponsors and events had already lined up for the Expo, but the news of the Prime Minister of Pakistan's involvement and the start of construction to Gwadar's International Airport gives it a new focal point.

Imran Khan confirmed by Chinese Official

The official announcement regarding Imran Khan's involvement in Friday's confirmation came via Twitter. A tweet from the account of Chinese Diplomat Lijian Zhao reads:

'PM @ImranKhanPTI will visit #GwadarExpo2019, attend groundbreaking ceremony of new Gwadar International Airport.'

The tweet then continues by tagging in a number of companies and officials who are directly involved with the launch of the new airport, including airlines and Balochistan officials.

What are the key stats involving Gwadar International Airport?

It's no surprise to see a Chinese official becoming involved in the story because the airport forms a vital part of CPEC projects. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (Find out more about CPEC here) is responsible for a number of developments across Pakistan but the city of Gwadar, with its key location on the south western tip of the country, has always been a main focus of the organisation.

When complete, the airport will be the largest in the whole of the country, edging out the sites in Karachi, Islamabad and beyond. It will be capable of hosting bulky craft including the new Boeings and in a city with as much potential as Gwadar, it is a vital artery in regards to everything CPEC have planned.

The cost is estimated at $230 million so this is up there with the biggest of all projects in the region. Investors in Gwadar property have been anxious for work to commence and we've now arrived with all the focus switching to Friday and Prime Minister Imran Khan at Gwadar Expo 2019.

With the completion of the airport shall come abundant tourism and commerce within Gwadar. It is a prime investment area which is why it is slated to become potentially a next Dubai of the World. CPIC is leading in the private development taking up many huge projects in Gwadar including Zero Point Gwadar, Downtown Gwadar the Heartland and the Executive Collection. CPIC has won awards for its performance and excellence in the field of real estate. CPIC is also the first to handover property in Gwadar with its highly ambitious International Port CIty project.

QUETTA: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday performed the groundbreaking ofBalochistan Health Complex, Quetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway as part of western alignment of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and New Gwadar International Airport.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Imran Khan praised Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal and said, "Balochistan is a lucky province to get a chief minister like Kamal."

"The country was headed towards destruction with the way it was being run previously and the ways of 'Purana Pakistan' had made the country bankrupt. The previous rulers used Balochistan's resources for their personal gains," the prime minister said.

PM Imran lamented, "In the past, politics was only done in Balochistan to win elections. The previous prime minister visited foreign countries five times more than he visited Balochistan."

"In the NFC award, money was increased for Balochistan but it not reach the people. There was no cardiac institute in the province," he regretted. "We will pull Pakistan out of these flawed systems and bring change," PM Imran vowed.

The premier announced that a cancer institute will be made with the help of Pakistan Army and the provincial government.

Speaking about theQuetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway, the premier said it was a difficult project. "TheQuetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway will connect the province to other parts of the country," he said.

"We also needed to pay attention towards the western route," PM Imran said and added that the government wishes to make a railway track from Quetta to Taftan and Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid is making efforts in this regard.

"We need to make a master plan for Quetta," he urged while stating that Pakistani cities are expanding. "As cities expand, people will not be able to receive facilities and will face more difficulties."

PM Imran further said that under CPEC, the western route should have been made first.

The premier also stressed the need for a "strong local government system for Balochistan". "Till local government system is not improved, people's quality of life will not be improved. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, we improved the local government system owing to which we emerged successful there for a second time," he added,

"The country also faces water issues for which we are building a dam. We do not want to think about other elections but our country's progress," he asserted. "If Balochistan is focused on then the whole country will progress," he stated.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal also addressed the ceremony and said, ""Prime Minister Imran Khan is working to address the grievances of people of Balochistan."

Kamal thanked the prime minister for starting the work in real terms on the western route of CPEC and said the project is a game changer for the whole region.

"The Balochistan Health Complex is a joint project of Pakistan Army and the provincial government," the provincial chief minister said and praised the role of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for starting this project in collaboration with the government of United Arab Emirates.

"Health is a basic need and this center is a great gift for the people of the province," he stated.

Kamal regretted that development of Balochistan was ignored in the past due to lack of accountability, sustainability and planning strategy.

"The armed forces and people of Balochistan have rendered numerous sacrifices during the last 15 years for bringing peace and stability in the province. Today's Balochistan is much better than that of yesteryears," he said.

Gwadar airport, uplift schemes for city
Prime Minister Imran Khan also launched work on New Gwadar International Airport and announced various other development schemes for the city, what he believed would become an engine of growth for Pakistan.

“What a pleasure it is to be in Gwadar.

Insha Allah, in coming months, years, Gwadar would be, I see, as engine of growth for Pakistan,” he said addressing the ground breaking ceremony of the airport.

The event was attended by federal ministers, Balochistan chief minister, parliamentarians, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Yao Jing besides huge number of Chinese workers and government officials.

The airport was included among Early Harvest High Priority Project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor in January 2014. The Chinese government would assist Pakistan for construction of the airport under Chinese Grant Assistance.

The project is part of overall infrastructure development of Balochistan.

It would be developed as a green-field facility with all modern facilities for safe operation.

The new Gwadar airport would be able to accommodate large aircraft such as A380. The project would comprise a modern terminal building with cargo terminal having initial handling capacity of 30,000 tons per year.

On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed for construction of Pakistan and China Vocational Training Institute and Pak-China Friendship Hospital.

The prime minister, who earlier unveiled the plaque of the project, thanked Chinese ambassador for the grant given by the Chinese government for the airport.

He welcomed the participants of the expo and said the event would grow with each coming year.

He assured the fishermen not to worry about their sustenance owing to the construction of the highway as special bridges would be built to facilitate them.

He categorically said any development would be of no use unless it benefited the local people.

He said in the past, the locals were ignored while executing the development projects in Balochistan.

He said gas worth billions of rupees was extracted from Sui but it could not change the living standard of the local people.

He said it was pleasing that the capacity of the hospital in Gwadar would be enhanced and a vocational training institute would also help create employment opportunities.

The prime minister announced to launch Insaf Sehat Card to provide health insurance cover worth Rs720,000 to every family.

He said previously power was being transmitted from Iran, but now the government had decided to link the area with national grid.

A desalination plant would also be set up in the city and under Clean and Green Pakistan, one million saplings would be planted.

Besides, a solid waste management system would also be established to protect the area from pollution.

He said following the models of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, the government had decided to recycle water in Gwadar to water the plants.

He told the gathering that Gwadar and Quetta would be linked through railways as it was the best travel mode but unfortunately Pakistan had been lagging behind in this sector.

He said Chinese support was being sought for up-gradation of the railways system as the country had the most advanced rail system.

He said one could travel from Karachi to Lahore within four hours if you take Chinese train.

He said having located at an ideal location and being well connected, Gwadar''s development would be the development of whole of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Khan said he was looking forward to extending bilateral cooperation with China during his upcoming visit in late April in various fields like train technology, agriculture and cage fishery.

Commended the work of the Chinese workers in Gwadar, he said soon a cargo and passenger ferry service would also be launched from Gwadar to Karachi that would later be extended to Qatar.

–PM visits Quetta and Gwadar, performs groundbreaking of health complex, Gwadar airport, Quetta highway

–Imran says Balochistan will be brought at par with rest of country

–Premier to meet businessmen in Karachi, Punjab’s CM, governor in Lahore on Sunday

QUETTA: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday promised a new era of development and prosperity in Balochistan on his short visit to the province where he performed groundbreaking of Balochistan Health Complex, Gwadar airport and Quetta-Zhob Highway.

The prime minister reached Balochistan’s provincial capital earlier in the day as a part of his inter-provincial trip. During the two-day visit, the PM will also visit Sindh and Punjab.

Addressing at the health complex ceremony, the prime minister said that Centre, with the cooperation of Balochistan government and Pakistan Army, will establish a cancer hospital in Quetta, which will turn this facility into a medical city.

“It is important to understand that heart and cancer treatments need specialists. It was hard for us to arrange oncologists, engineers and others, but now we will start this facility with the help of the army and the provincial government,” he said.

He appreciated Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa for using his connections with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to set up the health complex.

The prime minister said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government believes in uplifting all parts of the country on an equal basis, while regretting that Balochistan was neglected by the previous governments.

In a reference to the “gamechanger” China-Pakistan project, he said the development of the western route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will enhance connectivity and will also develop the deprived areas of Balochistan.

Imran also discussed local government system in the province, that consists of village councils. “When you empower people on a village level, it will help development. We have to make sure that development is inclusive. The more we focus on Balochistan, the more it will develop and Pakistan along with it.”

“The people of Balochistan fear that they will become a minority and lose their jobs,” the prime minister said, adding there was a need for the establishment of more technical institutes in the province to prepare its youth for the CPEC-related projects, including Gwadar.

PM Imran said the government is also planning to lay down Quetta-Taftan rail track to connect with Iran.

Terming the western route of CPEC a “game changer”, the prime minister said that work on this should have started earlier. “China was working on the eastern route, we should have worked on the western route,” he said. “This 305-kilometre route will bring a lot of change and development.”

The prime minister also underscored the need to create a master plan for Quetta. “Major cities in Pakistan do not have master plans, and cities are expanding. Unless you have master plans in place, you cannot provide basic facilities to urban areas,” he said. As per the PM, the government is also framing master plans for Islamabad and Lahore.

Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said the premier was working to address the grievances of people of Balochistan. He thanked him for starting the work in real terms on western route, calling it “a game changer” for the whole region.

Speaking about the cardiac centre project, the chief minister said it will be constructed within a two year period with the financial assistance of the United Arab Emirates.

HEALTH CARDS OF GWADAR:

“Any development is not the real development unless the local people get benefits,” the prime minister said as he announced Insaf Health Cards for the people of Gwadar during his visit. The beneficiaries could avail medical treatment at any hospital of up to Rs720,000.

“Gwadar has been blessed with very important geo-strategic location,” he said, adding that its people would get benefit from its development.

He said the government has allocated a fixed amount for Gwadar over its worrying power woes and that electricity will be supplied to the port city from the national grid. China will help Gwadar connect to Quetta through railway line as well, he added.

Earlier this week, Lijian Zhao, deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy, tweeted, “On the occasion of the groundbreaking (ceremony) of the new Gwadar international airport and second Gwadar expo, we will show you a different Gwadar port.”

KARACHI VISIT:

According to report, the prime minister will reach Karachi in late Friday night. In the metropolitan, he has called a meeting of Karachi Transformation Committee at 10 am Sunday, besides an address to the business community.

He will then visit Ghotki, to address a public gathering and MEET key party leaders.

He will end his two-day tour in Punjab where he will hold one-on-one meetings with Usman Buzdar, the chief minister, and Governor Chaudhry Sarwar.

He will also inaugurate two trains, including the Jinnah Express, at the railway station.

QUETTA-ZHOB MOTORWAY:

The Quetta- Zhob road (N-50 highway) will link Quetta with Zhob while passing through Kuchlak, Muslim Bagh and Qilla Saifullah. It will reduce traveling time between Quetta and Dera Ismail Khan from 12 hours to 4 hours and help uplifting socio-economic activity for the local population, particularly local businesses by providing access to minerals and mines and direct access to main markets.

It will also facilitate speedy transportation of goods from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the seaport of Karachi. N-50 being primary sub-regional corridor running parallel to the western border connecting Afghanistan and Iran with Pakistan and ensuring vital connectivity of CPEC western alignment leading to Gwadar Port.

According to international media, the estimated cost of the project, which is being funded by China, is $230 million

The construction of the airport is expected to be completed within three years. After completion, the airport will be the second largest in Pakistan that will handle ATR 72, Airbus A-300 and Boeing B-747 aircraft on domestic as well as international routes.
