They had little or no martial worth and reputation before the British invested in them...........barely clothed and carrying a knife as a weapon, and unknown...... British created/manufactured soldiers from the 'raw material'...no wonder they are still serving in the UK army, entire military history of Gurkhas revolve around Angraiz
Bhagat Singh was a great man - he fought against the British rule. Why would a Gurkha fight against the British - Nepal was a free nation anyways.

Yea they were fighting for British even though they had a free nation of Nepal, it makes them mercenary not soldiers. Other communities of British-India were subjects of British and were employed in the army to earn livelihood, they were soldiers of their government and even today men from those communities are soldiers of their respective governments while Gurkhas are mercenaries on contract in UK and India army (yea there are some Gurkha pockets in India but the Gurkha soldiers recruited are directly from country of Nepal )
