Gurgaon: A Delhi-based car rental company has purchased a record number of 90 Mercedes Benz cars from the company dealer in Gurgaon on Monday.

This is the biggest single deal made by the company in the country. Each customized, gold-tinged C-class Merc costs more than Rs 28 lakh.

Rajiv Vij, managing director of the firm, said the new fleet will add to his company’s fleet of Mercedes Benz. “In 2008, we bought 70 such cars. They were all silver coloured. This time we went for 90 C class cars,” said Vij, whose rental company — Carzonrent India — offers a wide range of luxury cars, ranging from C-class Mercs to S-class models, on rent.

Vij said the purchase was made keeping in mind the rising demand for luxury vehicles in cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Bombay, Chennai and Hyderabad.
“Today, almost 25% of our car rental revenues come from the luxury segment,” he said, adding the company is now looking forward to build a fleet of limousines.

The deal bodes well for the luxury car market of the country, with the client base rapidly expanding in the metropolises. Senior officials at Mercedes Benz believe that in the next 10 years there will be a boom in the market for high-end luxury vehicles.

Upcoming corporate hubs like Gurgaon remain promising markets for luxury cars, with Mercedes Benz alone selling more than a fifth of the company’s total sales here. “Our customer base in Gurgaon is growing at a rapid pace. Around 20-30% of our total countrywide sales takes place here,” said Debashis Mitra, director, sales and marketing for Mercedes Benz India.

Gurgaon, however, lags behind bigger cities like Delhi, which has around three times more buyers of the car than in the Millennium city.

“In Gurgaon we are selling around 300-400 cars a year,” said a company representative. He added that the overall luxury segment currently constitutes about 5% of the automobile market of the country.

You are absolutely right.

As far as Mercs are concerned Kolhapur is unbeatable. Kolhapur has one of the highest Mercedese per 1000 person in India.
In fact the princely state of Kolhapur was the first one to buy and bring a Merc in India.
Even today the vintage Maybach of King of Kolhapur which runs even today is world famous.

People from Aurangabad had bought BMW also in bulk..probably 120..

Carzonrent has recently bagged the contract with Emirates for offering all business class travellers a limousine service for airport transfers (actually offered by Emirates and they must be paying Carzonrent. Emirates also demanded that the limousines must be top end and Mercedes C Class - believe it or not - is actually the cheapest in top end). The demand is only growing. You can see at least 25-30 Carzonrent guys waiting for their respective drops with every Emirates flight. Carzonrent is also working out similiar deals with other airlines so that the airlines can be competitive to Emirates in service. Besides, there is anyway the general business out of the Airports. The price is also is not so much higher than normal Radio taxi companies. So quite competitive.

But all in all a good experience I must admit. Quite professional.

Yeah....Another group from Aurangabad itself ordered Merc. S class. 150 nos.

Those were deals by members of the same clubs. There were also such deals with BMW for the 5 series. But good approach because the collective purchase by clubs leads to a better bargain. And of course we all know how much we love a bargain :) .

I usually avail facility of COR(Carzonrent) due to my company tie-up with them and they charge heavily. An Indica for a day cost 2500 to 3000 INR while an Innova costs around 6000-7000 INR which is atleast 20% costlier than others. No wonder they made so much of money to buy 90 Merc.
