Gunshots fired near Indian PM residence - People's Daily Online January 30, 2010

An unidentified person opened fire Thursday just a few hundred meters from the residence of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and managed to flee, the local daily The Asian Age reported on Saturday.

The incident took place Thursday at the exit gate of the Ashok Hotel in the high security Chanakyapuri area where the prime minister's resident is located, said the report.

Several shots were fired by the occupant of a car that was leaving the hotel. Two men were in the car, which fled from the hotel by taking a nearly avenue, said the report.

Security agents of the Ashok Hotel noted down the plate number of the car and informed police, said the report.
