A GUNMAN has opened fire at a top private school in Saudi Arabia, according to the US Embassy in the country.

Police have converged on the Kingdom School college in the capital Riyadh.

Unverified reports say two teachers have been killed.

One American is reportedly dead, according to Saudi news website 3alyoum.com.

The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia said there had been a shooting but no children were present at the time.

It tweeted: “There has been a shooting at Kingdom School in Riyadh, shooter still at school. School closed, no children present. Please avoid area.”

It added: “Ongoing security incident at Kingdom School as of 3:00pm local time (1pm UK). Please avoid area due to heavy police presence.”

. . . .
This is one of the first school shootings that I have ever heard about in KSA. Hopefully the reports about casualties are false.

How come there are firearms available to the public in KSA? aren't they forbidden?
@Sharif al-Hijaz

KSA has one of the largest number of guns per capita in the world.

On this front most people do not follow the actual gun laws which is why most families are in possession of arms. I am a firm believer in ownership of guns and I think that the current gun laws should become much less strict. It should be the right of every citizen to be able to carry a gun to protect themselves, their loved ones and property.

The shooter was an Iraqi teacher by the way and I don't think that this is terror related.

Mosques/shrines has been bombed there if I am not wrong, from where did they get the explosive ? It is not that difficult to smuggle I think.

There have been 3 attacks on mosques (2 "Shia ones" and 1 "Sunni one") in the past 10 years or so in KSA. All related to ISIS and the latest occurred 2 years ago. Such kind of terrorist attacks happen very rarely. Sporadic shootings a few times each year targeting specific people/groups is more common but usually not many casualties occur due to this and nowadays it is mostly confined to the crime capital of KSA, Al-Awamiyah. As for smuggling, black market etc. it is not really difficult to buy weapons on the black market (if you have the contacts and money) anywhere. Not even in Scandinavian welfare states. That's how local gangs there (who are often at war with each other) arm themselves and biker gangs.

Crime levels in KSA are very negligible and one of the lowest in the world in KSA.

Shooting at Riyadh school kills two
LULWA SHALHOUB | ARAB NEWS STAFF | Published — Wednesday 31 May 2017

JEDDAH: Two teachers have been killed in a shooting at the Kingdom School in north Riyadh this morning.
The shooter is a former teacher that has been laid off years ago, local media has reported.
The shooting was “a case of a disgruntled employee,” Talal Al-Maiman, CEO of Kingdom Holding and chairman of Kingdom Schools told Reuters.
He added: “It is with regret that the administration building of Kingdom Schools witnessed this morning a shooting incident by an Arab national who was dismissed from the school four years ago on the basis of anger issues and an unstable personality.”
The schools' chairman told Reuters that the victims were Saudi and Palestinian nationals
and the situation at school “was contained as of mid-afternoon.” School’s private security guards “followed established procedures” until the case was handed over to government authorities.
The official Twitter account of the US Mission in Saudi Arabia has posted a warning to avoid the area that has heavy police presence.
The tweet that was posted around 2pm local time, states that “shooter still at school. School closed, no children present. Please avoid area,” before another tweet around 3:15 local time stated: “Ongoing security incident at Kingdom School as of 3pm local time. Please avoid area due to heavy police presence.”
Riyadh Police Department has not issued a statement yet.

I do agree with you, but there must be investigations before emitting any firearm permit, like here in Canada, this is to avoid guns falling in the hands of criminals or terrorist as a matter of fact..everyone can buy a gun or two or as many as they want, but only after being investigated and cleared..
