Rs. 48,000 was not a small amount in mid 1980s. Average Government job salary was Rs. 800 to 2000. Look at gold prices then and now. About 12-13 times greater in 2011.

Peak production run of Maruti 800 only began with Post 91 Liberalization.

@Maarkhoor is a tough, robust guy, with whom I disagree ardently. That does not prevent me from thinking him a man, in the proper sense of the term. I hated doing what I had to do, but could not deny him.

I am sorry that I wrote something complicated; that was not the intention, and it is never my intention.

My understanding is that Comrade @Maarkhoor is from Sindh; I hope he will correct me if I am wrong. Now the word Maarkhoor, or Markhor, is the name of a beautiful animal from the northern hills of Pakistan; it is, I think, Pakistan's national animal.

I found it amusing that someone from Sindh should choose as his personal call-sign an animal from the high peaks. That's all.

As for relating it to this present exchange, a very pleasant exchange that gave me much pleasure, someone who can reconcile the flatlands of Sindh with the high peaks of the Karakorum will naturally find no difficulty in bringing together three such irreconcilable individuals and making them smile at each other, rather than growling and snarling, as they usually do.

I think that is a remarkable achievement, and Maarkhoor is to be saluted.

I hope that explanation makes things better.

He too was very proficient in language and English. My English was very poor as I had never studied in English medium. I told him that now it has improved a lot since then. He too writes very beautifully like you. He had opened his blog named kavyasa. He used to write essays on some small thing like "Full Stop", "Dot", "Childhood" etc. It was read very much in US.

I was taken aback to read this. Some years ago, before beginning to write on line, my own English was restricted to business correspondence. The best way to learn to write is to write, write, write.....and take constructive criticism seriously and work with those.
