GTRE new engine tender

You are wright, I think HAL imported core of Al31 from Russia, but as you initial claim that HAL doesn't produce blades is baseless.
Although we developed core tech for Kveri & it is working but its too inferior compare than modern jet engines. Thats why now we are using M88 core & redesign Kaveri hope that will thrust worthy.
Problem with kaveri is not with its core,but with it's afterburner.According to official news it produces 49.2 of dry thrust and only 70 kn with full afterburner.
Kaveri did well, generating 49.2 KiloNewtons (KN) of “dry thrust”, marginally less than its target of 51 KN. But there was a serious shortfall in “wet thrust”; the Kaveri generated just 70.4 KN, well short of the targeted 81 KN


Its dry thrust is sufficiant for UCAV like AURA.

Only advantage that M88 gives that it's lighter than kaveri and produced 75kn wet thrust.

One serious question.
Why is GTRE giving a tender for an engine. Aren't they supposed to make the engine. Tenders are issued if you want someone to bid for a task that you are not going to do. So is it right understanding that GTRE is asking some one else to manufacture the engine for them?

The given tender is given to buy blisk blades of given configuration, possibly core will be designed by GTRE.

If you guys capable of making a AL31, then Kaveri won't be a failed project.

By that logic you wouldn't have so much trouble with your own engine developments either, since you are producing Russian engines just like India under licence too. But the fact is, your engines also turned out to be too heavy and with less power than you expected initially. But you were smart enough to use the proven foreign engines first, that's why at least your fighters turned out to be successful so far. But otherwise you are lagging behind as well, that's why PAF still waits for a good Chinese engine for JF 17 and possibly J10B, that's why J20 and J31, or Y20 are flying mainly with Russian engines and why you try to get your hands on S117 engines too.

They giving the specs that must be met, but the base will remain the Kaveri engine, while possible partners have to come up with solutions how to meet these specs.

Not only wet thrust but Kaveri is slightly overweight also. Any news about weight reduction?

Well the thing is that...one who assembles a product can easily reverse engineer it and use it...but the problem is, unlike some countries..India do not have the attitude of reverse engineering. They wanted to create something which they could say as new...but the product wasn't up to the expectations. Some countries do not mind being called copy cats..India does.
