Lale Sariibrahimoglu
Turkish firm Aselsan and 24 local companies uniting under the Konya Defence Industry Inc brand have established a plant in the central Anatolian town of Konya.
The new plant will locally produce weapons systems that Turkey currently imports, Aselsan said in a 22 March press release.
Groundwork was laid for the first phase of a USD65 million plant to continue the production of Aselsan-made remotely operated weapons stations (ROWS), as well as to manufacture machine guns and automatic weapons fitted on the ROWS that are currently imported, the company added.
The plant, named Aselsan Konya Arms Systems Inc, will be 49% owned by Konya Defence Industry Inc and 51% by Aselsan.
