KARACHI - The Sindh government has decided to organise ground breaking ceremony of Coal Mining and Coal Based Power Generation Block-II in Thar coalfield on January 31st in Thar area, in which government dignitaries of other three provinces would be invited.
At least up to 660MW electricity would be generated in 1st phase from Thar Coal field block-2.
This was decided at a high-level meeting of steering committee of Thar Coal Energy Board (TCEB) chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. The meeting discussed and gave final touches for preparation of ground breaking ceremony of block-2 in Thar coalfield. Sindh Minister Information & Local Government Shajreel Inam Memon, Advisor to CM for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Minister Social Welfare Rubina Qaimkhani, MNA Shazia Mari, Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana, Secretary to CM Rai Sikandar, Secretary Energy Board Agha Wasif Abbas, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput MD Thar Coal Energy Board and other officers attended the meeting. It was decided that ground breaking ceremony of coal mining at Thar Coal Block –II would be organised on January 31, 2014 in which high dignitaries from other three rovinces and overall country would be invited to attend. The project which jointly be executed by Sindh Government and Sindh Engro Coal Mining company would have the capacity to generate 660mw coal based energy in its 1st phase and it to be increased up to 1320mw in its second phase. This project would have 230 km transmission line to link the power in national grid for distribution accordingly.
The meeting formed different committees to make ground breaking ceremony as more success and source of attraction for attending expertise and organisations from all over country. A separate committee was constituted to work out for strengthening the TCEB and more empowering it in decision making with reference to implementation coal based power generating projects.
The meeting also approved the tariff rate of Thar Coal and decided to encourage the companies interested in coal base power generation.
The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah while addressing the meeting said that energy crisis was not only the problem of particular province but it was a national issue and should be resolved under the national umbrella and joint efforts.
He said that the purpose to invite the dignitaries from all other provinces and all over country was to provide a national forum to meet out to this challenge with Joint efforts. He said that with grace of God Sindh is blessed with indigenous natural resources like coal and wind corridor, not only to meet out the national requirements of the power but produce surplus energy to export and earn foreign exchange as well. He said that Sindh always had been remained ahead to resolve national issues and here to meet out the energy crisis, Sindh to play leading role. He said that sooner or later by virtue of investment being made for coal and wind base power generation, Sindh would be hub of electricity production in the country.
