KARACHI: Unknown motorcyclists hurled a grenade near a private school in Karachi's Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 7 area Tuesday morning causing fear and panic among area residents though no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.

DIG-East Munir Sheikh said that the school was not directly targeted in the attack and added that the blast had taken place in a lane between two sections of the school.

He further said that there were no casualties reported as the school was closed and no students or staff were present at the premises.

The attackers also left a threat letter before escaping from the scene.

Security and emergency teams reached the site and cordoned off the area. One track of the University Road was blocked after the incident which caused a traffic snarl up in the area.

Director General Rangers Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar also visited the blast site.

The terrorists and their supporters have lost the majority of their sympathizers. The façade of “hiding behind religious edicts” has been exposed. Senseless killings of innocents cannot be justified to anyone with an iota of sense. The enemy is left frustrated; with very little support and so they are hitting back at soft targets. The attack on the place of worship in Shikarpur and today’s attack on School in Karachi come from an enemy with the same vicious and evil mindset. We are glad that there were no casualties in this attack, and that is all the more reason to be vigilant and prepared for this evil enemy, who would stoop so low as to hurt our children. The terrorists should know that we stand united against them and we will not leave any stone unturned to defeat their malicious agenda of death and destruction.
