Srinagar: An encounter broke out between the Army and militants on Friday near the Line of Control in Uri sector of north Kashmir, with a militant believed to have been killed in the operation, an Army official said.

The encounter began this morning in Bonyar area in Baramulla district after Army launched an operation following inputs about the presence of three to four militants in the area, the official said.

He said as the Army zeroed in on the hiding militants, they fired upon the forces and in the ensuing gun battle, one militant was reportedly killed while an Army jawan was injured.

The body of the killed militant has not been recovered yet, the official said, adding, the operation is underway.

He said it was not immediately known whether this was an infiltration bid and added that the details will be known once the operation concludes.

One militant killed in Baramulla encounter - The Hindu

One militant was killed and one of their soldiers injured in a fire-fight on Friday in Booniyar border area in Uri in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, the Army has said.

"The encounter began at about 8.30 a.m in the morning and is still on. According to our current information, one of the militants has been killed while one of our soldiers has a minor injury," Army spokesperson Lt. Col NN Joshi said.

Army officials said that they had information about the presence of three militants in the area and a gunfight ensued after their forces cordoned the house where the suspected militants were present. According to the Army, two of the militants were still alive and fighting.

The body of the slain militant has not been recovered yet.
