Greece has approved USD125.8 million to spend buying 10 ex-US CH-47D. Source: Hellenic Armed Forces
The Hellenic Ministry of National Defence has formally funded the acquisition of 10 ex-US Army Boeing CH-47D Chinook helicopters at a total cost of USD125.8 million.
Although originally approved by the Greek government in October 2013 followed by the US State Department in December 2014, ongoing negotiations between Greece and its international creditors had prohibited any major defence spending until the country's financial rescue programme had been finalised.
The down payment for the acquisition, which includes spare engines and other spare parts, training, and logistical support, is expected to be made by the end of 2015, with payments running to 2022.
