Representatives of All India Christian Council on Tuesday filed a fresh complaint at the Sabarmati police station in connection with the January 26 incident in which some graves in a cemetery in the area were allegedly razed by some unidentified people.

Alleging police inaction, angry members later demanded chief minister’s resignation and vowed to stage a dharna in front of municipal corporation’s office at Khamasa on February 1.

On January 26, a group of people allegedly drove a bulldozer inside the cemetery and demolished a few graves there. Council members alleged it was at the instigation of local BJP councillor Chanchal Parmar.

Council’s president Vasant Christian had filed a complaint with the Sabarmati police station on January 26 but the police allegedly took no action, saying they have taken photographs of the place and were probing further.

Council members claimed when they contacted the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, they were told the civic body did not clean up religious places, burial grounds or private plots. They alleged the flattened graves were already being used as parking lots.

Samson Christian, a national-level leader of the Council who recently visited Ahmedabad, said, “Law and order has collapsed in the state. Now, even burial grounds are not safe in Gujarat. Christians in Gujarat seem to be the next after Muslims.”

The land for the cemetery was provided by the Western Railways before 1947 and seven churches of in have been using this cemetery since then.

Interesting article.

Hopefully the situation is resolved peacefully. No graves should be leveled and turned into parking lots. Gujarats CM already has a bad reputation with minority rights, its up to him to rectify these types of situations by not tolerating discrimination. If not, the central government might have to step in.

Unforgivable and hope the culprits are punished.

Resignation of CM?

Time to kick the neo convert missionaries out along with the Wahabis!

Yeah right.

Perhaps the Chief Minister should allegedly resign.

Hindutva nationalism will continue to grow and we will see more crimes against minorities.

‘State Government failed to protect Christians'

Working towards resolution of critical issues that affect minorities — such as extending reservation under the Scheduled Castes quota to Dalit Christians, concerns on the Right To Education Act “setting limits to the constitutional guarantees enjoyed by minority institutions” and the Communal Violence Bill — were among the key topics highlighted in the biennial report of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), presented here on Wednesday.

At the inaugural function of the eight-day 30th CBCI meet, being held at the St. John's Academy of Health Sciences, Albert D'Souza, secretary-general, CBCI, spoke about the socio-political situation in the country, particularly the anti-corruption mood and trust deficit in governance.

Criticising the Union Government, he said: “The Government is simply delaying replying to the Supreme Court on issues such as inclusion of Dalit Christians in caste reservations.”

The report by the National Commission on Minorities recommending that converted Dalits not be counted in the caste census was “yet another ploy of the Government to delay its response on the issue”, Fr. D'Souza said, reading from the report.

“While globally the community is being targeted — in China, Myanmar and Pakistan, for instance — in India too, we are seeing hate campaigns, even anti-conversion laws by States that are anti-constitutional,” he explained.

Archbishop of Bangalore Bernard Moras also observed that the State Government had “failed to safeguard the Christian minority”.

Following attacks against Christians in 2008 and 2009, the Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights had been actively engaging with the Government and making representations every time such incidents were reported from across the State.

Highlighting the diversity of the Indian church, Archbishop Salvatore Pinnachio, the Vatican Ambassador to India, said the Church must always “promote sound family values, encourage small Christian communities and befriend the poor and marginalised”.

He too emphasised on the struggle of the Dalit Christians in India to get their constitutional rights.

Nope elections are approaching, and the corrupt congress is trying its old tactics. Most of the communal riots happened under congress's watch.

Are you saying Congress supporters did these acts?
Or Congress is just making up the news?

No am saying that its a minor issue, nothing to do with "state sponsored persecution". And the Congress party is working these minority groups as muppets to peddle their anti Modi agenda.

The incident took place a week ago, police have taken down the complaint and doing their investigation. Its been a week and they are already whining about the police inaction.
